Safety Policy

Apr 28, 2014
The service of infrared thermography to industry is very beneficial and requires technological knowledge gained from education in the field. Not only does it require the knowledge to run the machine itself, but also an awareness of safety that must be practiced by the thermographer and plant personnel.

Pepper Maintenance Systems, Inc. works in a variety of environments and for many different companies. Each client has unique ideas and policies concerning plant safety. Pepper Maintenance technicians adhere to each individual policy and are trained in the areas in which the work is performed.  A key to the success of safety is that both the thermographer and the plant employee are working together. It is extremely vital that the employees adhere to company policy as well. Pepper Maintenance Systems assumes responsibility when opening and closing boxes. In most situations, plant superintendents and employees need not open live electrical equipment.

Pepper Maintenance Systems also adheres to individual company policies concerning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Each thermographer is equipped with a protective face shield, class 00 or 0 rubber gloves, leather outer gloves, hard hats, safety glasses and ear plugs. The thermographer carries a tool pouch, a Fluke amperage/volt tester, and other equipment needed to complete the infrared survey.

Pepper Maintenance Systems employees strive to adhere to each client’s policies concerning safety. If a problem area requires extra precaution, the thermographer will request that the equipment be de-energized and inspect the panel immediately after the panel is opened. The anomaly still can be analyzed after the equipment has been shut down. One of the most important keys to a successful and safe infrared survey is the interaction between the thermographer and plant employee. For a survey to be performed safely, it is important that a well trained, experienced employee be with the thermographer to help them along with any questions that may arise.

Pepper Maintenance Systems employees are familiar with tag-out/lockout policies and know that all electrical equipment must be put back correctly. For confined space entry, the only time that a thermographer should come in contact with this policy is when dryer blower bearings are checked.

Pepper Maintenance Systems thermographers are trained to perform infrared surveys efficiently and safely. The time the thermographer is on site depends on plant size, number of pieces of equipment, and weather conditions. Pepper Maintenance Systems inspects a facility one time per year in most instances. Pepper Maintenance Systems is fully insured and adheres to all safety policies and practices.

Safety is the biggest concern that Pepper Maintenance Systems has for its employees and clients. Safety meetings are held on an as-needed basis and on-site to address individual company policies and practices. Potentially dangerous situations are avoided in every plant encountered. Infrared Thermography is beneficial to any plant. Proper safety precautions are a must when performing infrared surveys.
