Humpback Whales takes viewers into the mysterious world of one of nature’s most awe-inspiring marine mammals. Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii and Tonga, the ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how these whales communicate, sing, feed, play and take care of their young. Join a team of researchers and find out why humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales, why they sing their beautiful songs, and why these intelligent, 17-metre, 45-metric ton animals migrate up to 16,000 kilometres round-trip every year.

Living in the Age of Airplanes is a story about how the airplane has changed the world. Not long ago, traveling between continents was a migration. Now, on any given day, 100,000 flights transport people and things between any two points on Earth in a matter of hours.
 
Filmed in 18 countries across all 7 continents, it explores the countless ways aviation affects our lives (even when we don’t fly). With stunning visuals, the film renews our appreciation for one of the most extraordinary and awe-inspiring aspects of the modern world.
 
The documentary is produced and directed by Brian J. Terwilliger (One Six Right), narrated by Harrison Ford, and features an original score by Academy Award® winning composer James Horner (Avatar, Titanic).

Journey to the South Pacific 3D

Star Party
September 18 and October 18, 2015 9:30 p.m., Science North

Ever wanted to look at the night sky through a telescope? Come on out to a Star Party and see what’s out there! You can gaze at the planets, the moon and other astronomical objects through powerful telescopes and binoculars. Learn how to find constellations and hear some of the mythological stories associated with them. Star parties are held outdoors in front of the small snowflake building at Science North unless noted otherwise. All star parties are weather permitting. Please call the Star Party Hotline at (705) 522-3701 ext. 243 on the day of the Star Party (after 5 pm) to check if the Star Party will going ahead or had to be cancelled due to weather.

- Pumpkinferno — PumpkinfernoTM is an enchanting outdoor award-winning exhibit created by Upper Canada Village, featuring thousands of hand-carved pumpkins set against a glowing Sudbury backdrop on the grounds of Dynamic Earth and the Big Nickel.
- Dress warmly and enjoy a 30-45 minute stroll on our outdoor trails and new firepit for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows – as well as fingers and toes. Good fun for all ages!
- The Zombie Tunnel of Terror* — Brave your way down seven storeys belowthe Earth’s surface to endure Canada’s only underground haunted house! Dare toenter and you’ll be in the centre of a zombie outbreak where the living dead awaityour arrival to feast on your flesh. (muuuhaaahahahaha)
 
*This experience is not for the faint of heart and is recommended for ages 12 and up, children 6 and under are not permitted.

Science Demonstrator After School Science Kids Program

Science North is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual to work with our Education and Northern Programs team in the delivery and coordination of its after school science program.
