Compass Minerals Earns Mansfield Rule Certification Plus 2020 Designation from Diversity Lab

Aug 27, 2020
Compass Minerals is one of 13 corporate legal departments to have earned the Mansfield Rule Certification Plus 2020 Designation from Diversity Lab.

This designation means that our company met or exceeded the pipeline consideration requirements for certification and successfully achieved diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of current leadership roles and committees.

Named after Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in the U.S., the Mansfield Rule: Legal Department Edition measures whether legal departments have affirmatively considered women, LGBTQ+, lawyers with disabilities and minority lawyers for the legal department’s top roles and outside counsel representation. Compass Minerals began supporting the Mansfield Rule for external legal providers during the original launch in 2017 and joined the Legal Department Edition pilot in 2019.

“It’s important that we demonstrate our belief that everyone has a voice and every voice matters,” said Mary Frontczak, chief legal and administrative officer and corporate secretary. “Participating in the Mansfield Rule program is a reflection of our inclusive beliefs. Our company is made stronger through the combined benefit of differing and diverse ideas, experiences and backgrounds.”

Corporate legal departments participating in the pilot had to first establish a baseline metric by which they could assess and analyze their talent pipelines in order to achieve the Mansfield Rule objectives. As part of the rigorous Mansfield Rule Certification process, the legal departments were expected to create and adopt documentation and tracking norms to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
