Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC)

Congratulations Nadia St-Jean, MSc Geology!

Jun 4, 2020
We proudly announce Nadia St-Jean’s successful MSc Geology defence and would like to congratulate!

Nadia’s orogenic-gold and structural-geology-themed research topic is titled “The nature of the Cadillac-Larder Lake Fault: Implications for gold mineralization along the Kerr-Addison-Cheminis segment”. The thesis is part of the Metal Earth project, and supervised by Dr. Ross Sherlock (Chair of Exploration Targeting, Director of MERC and Metal Earth) and Dr. Bruno Lafrance (Professor of Structural Geology). This video of the Kerr-Addison Gold Mine illustrates the nature of Nadia’s study area.

Nadia came to Laurentian University in 2017, with a keen interest in better understanding ore deposits which she had already explored in her professional life: after she had graduated with a B.Sc. Geology from the University of Ottawa in 2012, she was recruited into the Generation Gold program, a mentorship and training program for young geologists at Kinross Gold. She worked  for Kinross Gold for five years, gaining experience on different ore deposit types in the USA and West Africa.

Nadia currently works for Kinross Gold as the Exploration Manager on their Round Mountain Mine operations in Nevada, USA. In this capacity, she oversees both greenfield and brownfield exploration projects, and in addition is tasked with determining the controls on ore grade distribution at their operating open pit mines.

Nadia has acquired all the skills for a successful career in mineral exploration and we wish her all the best!
