Eaton Broadens Portfolio of Land-Based Drilling Solutions with Roughneck Line of Harsh and Hazardous Connectors

Mar 20, 2014
SYRACUSE, N.Y.… Power management company Eaton today introduced the Roughneck™ multi-pin and single pole connectors from its Crouse-Hinds business. Ideal for land-based drilling environments, the complete product portfolio helps to provide a secure connection, providing power to major jobsite components in both hazardous and non-hazardous environments.

“By expanding our Roughneck line of connectors, we are able to serve as a complete interconnectivity solutions provider, making it even easier for our customers to identify solutions in both land-based and offshore drilling applications,” said Mike King, global product line manager, Plugs and Receptacles, Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds division. “All solutions have been developed and tested in-house and highlight our commitment to our customers in the oil and gas markets.”

The Roughneck line can be configured to suit end user needs with options from 1,135 Amp rated single-pole power to smaller gauge multi-conductor inserts for control and instrumentation applications. Solutions contain a patent-pending reversible 8-point diamond grip to help relieve strain on the conductors, while an exclusive visual mating alignment feature allows for easy installation and flexibility to unplug and move the drilling rig to the next location. Multiple shell size options are available to suit users’ connectivity needs.

The new Roughneck product line has met the rigorous standards for a wide range of global certifications and approvals, including Ex certification with ATEX and IECEx directives.

Solutions are also Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1977 recognized, meet Canadian Electrical Code (CSA) with C22.2 No. 182.3 and are Ingress Protection 68 rated.
