HOW TO FIX THE “FAILED TO OBTAIN COMPUTER IDENTIFIER” ISSUE
This message shows up when Solidworks Licensing service (FlexNet) cannot resolve the unique computer ID. The computer ID is an unique number that the FlexNet service generates. This ID from computer to computer and also changes after a Windows reinstall. To fix the issue, we have to make sure the licensing service is up and running:
Go to Windows Services. You can use one of the following options:
- (Start button, and type "services)
- Control Panel’ > ‘System and Security’ > ‘Administrative Tools’ > ‘Services’
- Run services.msc
- In the ‘Services’ list, find 'FlexNet Licensing Service' and 'FlexNet Licensing Service 64'.
- View the properties of both services and ensure that 'Startup type' is set to 'Manual'.
- If the services are enabled and correctly configured, and the problem persists, there may be an issue with your computer hardware (for example a faulty hard drive) or with your Windows installation. In this case, please work with your IT department to solve or troubleshoot the issue.
