Increased economy and functionality - HICOAT coatings prevent wear and material build-up

Milling work such as deburring, leveling, milling out openings or preparing and reworking weld seams are highly productive processes. The range of tools optimized for the respective materials and machining tasks is diverse. Nevertheless, when machining steel or stainless steel (INOX), earlier wear or with long-chipping and lubricating materials, such as soft aluminum alloys, the clogging of the tool leads to losses in the economic efficiency and functionality of burrs.

“Coatings provide a remedy here,” explains Thomas Plömacher, Product Manager u. A. for burrs at the manufacturer of tools for surface treatment and cutting, PFERD tools.

PFERD relies on wear protection through thin-film coating. "This enables us to achieve a significantly increased performance of the tools," says Plömacher. And although the coatings are only a few thousandths of a millimeter thick, they are harder than steel. "These thin-film coatings impress with their extreme wear resistance, low friction and chemical resistance," explains the PFERD product manager. The optimal coating essentially depends on the intended use.

“In burrs for steel or stainless steel (INOX), for example, our HICOAT-FEP coating leads to a high level of surface hardness and wear resistance.

It improves chip evacuation and sliding properties, increases temperature resistance and tool life and also allows higher cutting speeds, ”says Thomas Plömacher. Taken together, this leads to a performance improvement of up to 30%. "That is why we are now offering our material-specific optimized toothing for steel (STEEL) and stainless steel (INOX) as well as our ALLROUND toothing with our well-known HICOAT coating HC-FEP."

For long-chipping and lubricating materials such as aluminum, other properties of a coating are expedient: "The main thing here is to prevent the burr from clogging," says Plömacher. "Often the tools cannot even be brought into a wear window because the chip spaces clog during machining and the burr no longer works." Here, too, the manufacturer from Marienheid offers coated solutions: "We rely on those optimized for non-ferrous metals HC-NFE coating, ”explains the product manager. "It improves the sliding properties, reduces the heat load, ensures effective chip evacuation, and thus significantly prevents the burr from clogging, which leads to a longer service life overall and maximizes the cutting performance."

The new PFERD carbide burrs have also been optimized in terms of ergonomics and efficiency: PFERD ERGONOMICS recommends burrs with STEEL, INOX and ALLROUND cut as an innovative tool solution for comfortable work with significantly reduced vibrations and less noise. PFERD EFFICIENCY recommends burrs with STEEL, INOX, ALLOUND and ALU cut for long, fatigue-free and resource-saving work with perfect results in the shortest possible time.
