Let's protect the private company from de facto ways

Feb 15, 2021
The Colombian Mining Association (ACM) calls on the communities near Cerrejón not to take de facto routes that affect the productivity of the private sector in the department and therefore the sustainability of the Guajiros. In this same sense, we call for the Authorities to seek consensus with the community and prevent this type of demonstration from affecting the normal performance of the companies and people who work daily in the region.

The interruptions to the traffic of the railway that connect the Cerrejón mine with Puerto Bolívar are repetitive. The constant blockades directly affect the department and its inhabitants, generating multimillion-dollar losses that compromise the stability of the business and reduce contributions such as taxes and royalties that benefit thousands of Colombians.

Let us remember that 44% of the economy of La Guajira is associated with the mining and coal industry; Cerrejón paid $ 1.7 billion pesos between taxes and royalties to the National Government, only in 2019, reaching in the last 18 years, $ 18.5 billion for these concepts, in the same way, the company made purchases and contracts in the department for more of $ 91,200 million with 162 local suppliers, hence the importance that the activity is not affected by any external factor and less by one in which it has no interference, such as the one that has motivated the latest demonstrations.
