LGBTQIA+ Pride: Meet some of Vale's bisexual employees and the work they do in favor of diversity

Jun 30, 2021

If everyone is different, why not celebrate our diversity? That's what Vale decided to do during LGBTQIA+ Pride Week, sharing inspiring stories of employees that make the company an increasingly humanized and diverse place. Today, we are going to tell you a little about the trajectory of Gabriela Alcantara and Karen Rubem, bisexuals and pillars within our Affinity Groups.

Gabriela Alcantara

Gabriela's relationship with Vale began in 2019, when the architect was hired to work on a project to restructure the company's work spaces. After being selected for Vale's Global Trainee Program, Gabriela joined the Executive Board for Recovery and currently holds the position of land analyst, managing real estate assets. She has also recently assumed one of the coordination positions in the LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group.

Gabriela speaks with great optimism about our Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and gave advice to people who dream of working at Vale:

Don't be afraid to be yourself! When we work with different people, we end up getting to know them and seeing that it's not a big deal. This is the great power that Vale has when it engages in this investment in Diversity and Inclusion.

Karen Rubem

At Vale for almost 10 years, Karen Rubem's trajectory has been marked by her contact with people. The psychologist worked for 8 years in the Human Resources area and, since 2019, has taken on a new challenge as a Change Management analyst in the Technology department.

In line with the company's purpose, the granddaughter of miners that she has made proud, believes that each one of us is responsible for the transformation. Karen spoke about what Pride Month means to her:

For me, pride means resistance. You can't talk about Pride just as a celebration. We must celebrate life and our achievements, but we are still at the beginning of our journey. We will continue to support and strengthen each other and move forward together. We can only transform the world together.
