Local Manufacturer Gets Boost from Yves Foundation & Gouvernment of Canada for Innovation

Schauenburg Industries Ltd. of North Bay Ontario qualifies for more than $30,000 for Skills Training

Jan 15, 2013
North Bay – January 14, 2013 – Schauenburg Industries Ltd. of North Bay, Ontario recentlyqualified for AIME North funding. The YLF funding investment is generously supported through Fednor, which is part of a province wide Government of Canada initiative. This local manufacturer applied for and was approved for funding through a new workforce skills upgrade initiative called Achieving Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence (AIME) North, administered by the Yves Landry Foundation.

“Due to the growth Schauenburg was experiencing, the timing was right for them to participate in our AIME North program”, said Executive Director of the Yves Landry Foundation, Karyn Brearley. “With newly upgraded equipment, and enhancements to their production processes, they needed to upgrade their existing workers skills and integrate new employees quickly to respond to the growing production demand.” Ms. Brearley went on to say, “these are the kind of projects that are exactly why the AIME program was created; to support innovation and skills upgrading.”

The investment was used to enhance Schauenburg Industries ability to provide service to their customers and better enable them to respond to customer demand. This will give the company a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Don Croteau, Managing Director of Schauenburg Industries, attributes the success of this program to the concise application process and quick execution of the AIME Initiative North. Croteau’s experience of the program’s application process was that it was straight forward and even though it required many details, “We knew at the end of the day, if you’re going to get back 30, 40, or 50 thousand dollars, it’s all worth it.”

Jay Aspin, MP for Nipissing Timiskaming, who is a strong supporter of the AIME North program, commented that, "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with the Yves Landry Foundation to assist our manufacturers to be more competitive and innovative. We need to continue to support manufacturers in northern Ontario and foster skills upgrading to support innovation and productivity improvements. We need to continue to grow essential manufacturing jobs in North."

AIME North initiative was introduced by the Government of Canada in 2012 to lessen the training costs manufacturers incur when trying to introduce cutting-edge processes, tools and technologies to their plants. Funding is available to any Northern Ontario manufacturer that requires employee training to support innovation that promises to increase a company's competitiveness. The $2 million program is being administered by the Yves Landry Foundation, a leading proponent of workforce education for Ontario's manufacturing sector. Schauenburg Industries is one of many northern Ontario companies benefiting from the program.
