Machine Tracking...How Important is That?

Mar 31, 2011
How important is it for you to monitor your equipment’s performance history? How DO you keep track of equipment for asset performance? If it is not kept in such a way that it is easily accessible for your people at all levels—-including the corporate board room—-to view and monitor, you are missing out on an important piece of information that would be very beneficial to your company!

We, at Pepper Maintenance Systems, Inc. feel that the first step in taking care of your equipment, your personnel, and your company’s bottom line is in Reliability-Centered Maintenance. This involves proactive care rather than reactive repair with all of your equipment and assets. We use the old saying, “A penny saved is a penny earned” when in fact, we are talking about thousands of dollars in savings (equipment wear, failures, downtime while waiting for parts and repairs, etc.) that can be made using the model of preventive maintenance.

Tracking your equipment’s performance history over time will allow you to see exactly what is happening with each machine and view even the performance of various parts of individual pieces of equipment as they are tracked over time.

The evolution of machine tracking has been greatly influenced with strides in technology over the last few years. We started out with paper reports in loose leaf notebooks. The next advancement came in the form of a file card system with each piece of machinery’s history being kept on a separate card.

We really felt that technology was moving along when we were able to keep track of equipment on spread sheets...but now, there are amazing types of technology available to you where you can track all the conditions of each piece of equipment that will ultimately affect the equipment life and performance.

The cycle works like this: our technicians come to your facility and complete their inspections. From data gathered, reports are generated and entered into software that makes it available for you to view. For any needed work, a work order is generated for you and you make the decision as to when and how the repair or maintenance will be done.

Once it has been completed, the work order is closed and your equipment should be in excellent operating order. By using this software, you will eliminate breakdowns, minimize shutdown and idle time, increase production, and insure a safer environment for your staff.
You, in turn, will be able to keep track of equipment performance, breakdowns, costs of repair, and in the long run -create a safer work environment for your employees and increase your bottom line. Ultimately, this is the goal of your company.
If you are not currently using a type of software that can do these things for you, please contact us at Pepper aintenance Systems, Inc. at 309-392-1600 for information regarding the possibilities we have to offer. You will not be sorry!
