MADE IN CANADA: INNOVATIVE ROYER BOOTS FOR THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES

Mar 27, 2014
On March 21, Minister Gary Goodyear, on behalf of National Defence Minister Rob Nicholson, announced that the Canadian Government had awarded two procurement contracts to supply boots for the Canadian Armed Forces.

ROYER has received the largest share of these two contracts, with 65% of the requirement stated in the invitation to tender. The product, designed and manufactured at the Lac-Drolet plant, was selected based on rigorous testing by soldiers in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.

"We are very proud that the Canadian troops appreciated the value of our product, and pleased to have been chosen as the primary boot supplier for land operations in temperate climates. On this 80th anniversary of our founding, we are honoured that the Canadian military recognizes the innovation and manufacturing capabilities that are at the heart of our DNA at ROYER," said Yves Royer, the company's president.

In a press release, Minister Nicholson stated: “Today’s announcement is welcome news for the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian industry. We are once again providing our men and women in uniform the tools they need to do their job at home and abroad. Our solders deserve modern, reliable and effective military equipment and clothing to meet future national and global missions. These contracts reflect our commitment to our military while maintaining Canadian jobs.”

In addition to maintaining some 80 jobs, the ROYER contract will create 50 more jobs, 15 of which will be in Lac-Drolet.
