NMA Welcomes Presidential Executive Order Supporting Infrastructure

Jun 4, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Mining Association (NMA) today issued the following statement from Rich Nolan, NMA President & CEO, following the President’s announcement of the “Utilizing Emergency Authorities to Facilitate Infrastructure Improvements and Other Activities to Support the Nation’s Economic Recovery from the COVID-19 Emergency” Executive Order.

“Infrastructure does not exist without mining. Whether it’s copper for wiring, metallurgical coal required for steelmaking or zinc for galvanization, our transportation, water supply and energy infrastructure systems simply cannot be built or updated without mined materials. Today’s executive order provides an opportunity to jumpstart our economic recovery by ensuring that we are rebuilding and modernizing with American-made materials, equipment and jobs. Smart permitting reforms will support increased use of the vast domestic mineral reserves we have right here at home, reversing the alarming mineral import reliance that has more than doubled in the last 25 years. Now is the time to rebuild the supply chains essential to our infrastructure, national security and the future health of our economy.”
