NV1 Proves that Bigger isn’t Always Better
3,850 km is a long road trip for the NV1. About a week ago, it’s boom was laid down and it was strapped to a truck for the equipment’s layover at MINExpo, en route to a new home in Billings, Montana.
The NV1 has been a major attention-grabber at MINExpo 2012. With this piece of equipment, however, it is not garnering attention for it’s massive size, but rather, it’s sleek physique and shockingly agile maneuverability.
In fact, the NV1 is the smallest hydraulic drill in the industry.
According to Rob Lipic, General Manager of Capitol Operations for MTI “the industry was calling for a drill that could move and deliver in tight spaces.”
“The NV1 is our replacement for the older generation VR1, which now has modernized power train, controls and hydro electric systems.”
Other features that the NV1 boasts include a Montabert drill, double articulation, environmental cab option and a boom that can swing in any direction.
All of these features have lead to more efficient production mining for companies using the NV1 in their operations.
“The biggest advantage of the NV1 is the fact that it’s small and can fit into the small headings,” said Daniel Saint Don, General Manager of DMC Mining Services, whose operation utilizes the NV1. “It also has an extremely good capacity to turn sharp angles.”
He continued that the NV1 helped to decrease their drilling cycle and allowed them to drill more safety in some pretty bad grounds.
All of these features and more have been on display during MINExpo 2012, proving the bigger isn’t always better.
