SGS Appoints Stephanie Downing as Manager, Advanced Mineralogy Facility

Aug 15, 2013
SGS is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Downing as Manager of the Advanced Mineralogy Facility in Lakefield. Stephanie was previously in the role of Senior Mineralogist.

Stephanie graduated from Queen’s University with both a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geography and a Master of Science in Geological Sciences. She joined SGS in 1996 as a Junior Mineralogist and was promoted to Senior Mineralogist in 2007.

Stephanie has over 20 years of experience in mineralogical applications and analysis. Her strong technical expertise has lead to many achievements including the development and implementation of new technical advances, methods and systems for mineralogy workflow optimization. One of Stephanie’s notable achievements was the development of a method for calculating mineralogical neutralization potential, an ARD parameter, directly from the tailings or waste rock mineralogy. This information is used to determine whether a solid will generate acidity or not in the presence of oxidizing conditions.

In her new role, Stephanie will be responsible for leading the growth and performance of the Lakefield Advanced Mineralogy Facility. She will manage an experienced team of mineralogists and technicians to ensure high quality mineralogy data is integrated in to metallurgical programs and results in client satisfaction.
