SONAMI STATEMENT ON MEGA-ELECTION RESULTS

Diego Hernández, president of SONAMI, on election results:

 

In the first place we want to highlight the realization of this historic electoral process, which is a clear demonstration of the democratic vocation that the country has, which undoubtedly wants to advance in changes, but in an atmosphere of calm and moderation. In the same way, it should be noted that the formation of the members of the Constituent Convention, something unprecedented in the country, occurs within a framework of absolute respect for the current legislation and that it is conducted along the path of institutionality.

 

In the scope of the Constituent Convention, beyond the electoral result, we trust that the instance will begin to work within the mandate it has and thinking about the higher good of the country. In this sense, once it is constituted and its mission begins, we will be able to form a more complete idea, although we hope that its members can rise to the challenge that the country has entrusted to them.

 

As a union organization with 138 years of existence, we are committed to making our contribution to achieve a new Constitution that allows us to maintain what we have achieved so far and to advance decisively on pending issues, especially in social matters.

 

We believe that the new Chilean Constitution, in the midst of the technological and sustainable revolution, should strengthen the strategic vision of a country and a future associated with these concepts. In particular, we consider important the transparency and legal force of the mining concession, the need for stability and predictability in the legal framework that regulates it, and the non-discrimination between public and private mining actors, national and foreign, who have coexisted virtuously in this activity.

 

Finally, as a union we are committed to a path of building agreements and finding meeting points. In this sense, we call not to focus on differences or to be carried away by advantages or transitory situations, which makes it difficult to advance in key matters for our future.
