The finale of the adventure with KGHM Polska Miedź SA

Jun 23, 2021

57 thousand tasks, hundreds of students, learning through play - the educational game prepared by KGHM Polska Miedź SA for students of 9 patron schools covered by the "Competent in the mining and metallurgical industry" program in the Copper Basin has ended. The best received prizes and gifts.

- I would like to thank the students of KGHM's patron schools for participating in this unique project. The multimedia fun was a great opportunity to strengthen the participants' skills and to get to know our company. Technical competences are the future, and we focus on qualified staff and the development of our future employees - said Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź SA

Magdalena Wróbel - general director for human resource management at KGHM Polska Miedź SA added that the initiative is the next stage of the company's involvement in caring for the staff at the level of secondary schools. In the 2020/2021 school year, over 1,900 students participate in the "Competent in the industry" program.

The best players and representatives of schools received diplomas with congratulations and awards from KGHM. The school score was calculated as the average of the points scored by the player from that school. This meant that the quality of the game mattered, not the number of logged in participants. What mattered was the key to achieving the goal and achieving above-average results, i.e. persistence, consistency, systematic learning and knowledge gained during the game. The schools whose students turned out to be the most involved throughout the game were the following schools:

  • The first place for participation in the virtual game went to the Technical and General School Complex in Legnica
  • Second place went to the School Complex for them. Of the Nations of United Europe in Polkowice
  • The 3rd place went to the Mechanical School Complex in Bolesławiec

The project for students of patronage schools was carried out under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Science. Deputy Minister Marzena Machałek appreciated the game prepared by KGHM. - All types of support, including educational programs for students, are very much needed solutions. The most important thing is cooperation that will help to predict which competences will be useful for students in a given region. KGHM is the largest employer in Lower Silesia, so the professions related to the copper industry deserve special attention - said Marzena Machałek.

An educational game for students from the Copper Basin was an adventure lasting several months in a virtual, cosmic space, in a planetary system similar to the Earth's. The copper universe was filled with tasks related to KGHM. Youth from patron schools completed tasks concerning, inter alia, knowledge about the Company's ecological investments, mining and metallurgical traditions or the production of copper itself. The game also tested knowledge of exact sciences, much needed in the mining industry. Additionally - the tasks allowed to develop interpersonal competences, which turn out to be the competences of the future - assertiveness, the ability to communicate and make decisions.

The educational game kompetentniwbranzy.pl total attended by over 650 students from Copper Basin. Participants spent a total of 2,000 400 educational hours and completed over 57,000 tasks in the copper universe.

After the event, the winners were able to control drones and drive an electric car.

In the Copper Belt, there are 9 school complexes with classes under the patronage of KGHM. The "Competent in the mining and metallurgical industry" program, promoting professional competences, was launched in 2018.
