Jun 15, 2021

Providing human resources for the future for key projects - KGHM cares about higher education in Lower Silesia by supporting the most desirable occupations on the labor market. The copper giant has just taken the patronage of the "automation and robotics" faculty at the State Higher Vocational School in Głogów.

The agreement was signed by the Vice-Presidents of the Management Board of KGHM, Adam Bugajczuk and Dariusz Świderski, the rector of PWSZ in Głogów Katarzyna Rusak and the President of the Management Board of Centrum Badań Jakości, Wacław Szetelnicki. Wojciech Zubowski, Member of the Polish Parliament, took part in the ceremony.

- Taking care of the "automation" course is our response to the situation on the labor market. We already have to take care of qualified staff and ensure an inflow of specialists to implement strategic directions, including KGHM 4.0 - said Adam Bugajczuk, Vice President of the Management Board for Development, during the ceremony.

The university's rector, Katarzyna Rusak, added that the mission and statutory duty of the University of Applied Sciences is the best preparation of students for future work in the learned profession. - The agreement signed today opens a new chapter in educating engineers in the fields of study we offer. It gives the opportunity to combine the knowledge and experience of both parties - emphasized the Rector.

The continuous development of electrical power equipment, automation and information technology makes the profession of automation more and more crucial every year, and graduates of this field of study find employment almost immediately.

- Digital transformation and the creation of modern ICT solutions supporting the Company's processes is a factor determining its competitiveness and position on the market. Even in the seemingly traditional industries such as mining and metallurgy. KGHM is in line with the global market trend for industrial companies with its actions , added Dariusz Świderski, Vice President of the Management Board for Production.

Magdalena Wróbel, managing director for human resources at KGHM, reminded that the company cares about the staff of the future at the level of secondary schools. In the Copper Belt, there are 9 school complexes with classes under the patronage of KGHM, as part of the "Competent in the mining and metallurgical industry" program established in 2018. In the 2020/2021 school year, over 1,900 students participate in the program.

The agreement signed between the State Higher School in Głogów and the Quality Research Center will enable students to combine theoretical and practical classes as part of dual education.

- This is an excellent way to develop technical competences that are necessary from the employer's point of view. It is also a way for the graduates of these faculties to be ready to enter the labor market upon completion of their education - said Magdalena Wróbel.

Dual studies are a popular method of educating specialists, especially in Western European countries. KGHM cooperates, among others, with with the Wrocław University of Technology and the University of Jan Wyżykowski in Polkowice.
