Track and Trace European directives 2008/43 and 2012/4

Davey Bickford EMEA

Apr 5, 2013

Dear Customers,

On 5th April 2013 will enter into force the European directives 2008/43 and 2012/4 that aim at ensuring a rigorous traceability of explosive products along the whole supply chain. These directives originate from the 2004 terrorist acts in Madrid, which triggered the need for all European companies involved in the pyrotechnical business to secure the exchange of explosives.

Anticipating this major change for our profession, Davey Bickford has been adding optical datamatrix codes on all the outer packaging for the past 18 months. These codes are fully compliant with the guidance note from the Federation of European Explosives Manufacturers (FEEM), in which we are long time involved to make this project successful.

Within the upcoming weeks, you will notice that these datamatrix codes will be used on all our packaging, pallets and products concerned by the directives. Doing so, as of 5th April, all products manufactured by Davey Bickford will be in compliance with this regulation and we shall unfortunately be compelled to pass you the additional cost of production due to this specific marking. We’ll inform you of these prices changes in the next few days.

In the meantime, you may receive some partially labelled orders, following the deployment of the system on our production lines. You may also notice a few changes on the design of the labels.

The coded data depends on the level of the packaging and everything has been done to ensure maximum readability of the labels, especially in difficult conditions such as low lighting.
