University Cooperation Paves Way for Pulsator Material Testing

Mar 4, 2019
Last June 2018, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) and Moventas Gears Oy signed an agreement of a cooperation project, you can read more about it here. The technical development project, called NXT-GEN pulsator, has now began tooth material fatigue testing at the JAMK research facilities.

The aim of the pulsator testing is to define the root fatigue fracture limit by causing load cycles to a gear tooth. The new JAMK pulsator device can cause up to 60 load cycles in a second, which enables an efficient testing time frame and better understanding of material characteristics.

In the next two-years JAMK will operate all together 24 test series, three series per quarter. One test series contains eight test gears with total amount of 32 teeth fractures. In the end, the NXT-GEN pulsator will have completed 768 tooth fatigue tests.

For the wind gearboxes, this testing qualifies the new gear materials to be implemented into product as well as verifying new material suppliers. Moventas aims to validate new and stronger gear materials for future products through a quicker and more effective testing process.

Moventas takes pride in cooperating with the young talents at JAMK and is excited to see the synergetic benefits.
