Vale and Mining Hub announce the first open innovation bid of 2021

Over R$ 2 million may be invested in the search for solutions to mining challenges
 
Vale and Mining Hub launched M-Spot Cycle 2, a customized open innovation program to solve 16 mining challenges in six different areas: value chain, energy, geotechnics, health and safety, asset management (mine) and asset management (plant).
 
In its first version, over R$ 2 million was made available for startups and technology-based companies selected to implement proofs of concept, which are underway in Vale's internal areas. For the second edition of the program, the amount may be even higher.
 
The success of the first edition generated great expectations for the second cycle of M-Spot, as stated by Júlio Barbosa, from Vale's Open Innovation team. "In Cycle 1, we had about 200 entries from different countries and Brazilian states. The reach and notoriety that the program has achieved lead us to believe that this is a successful journey, in which both sides win and learn together: companies and the innovation ecosystem", he points out. Expectations for Mining Hub are also high. "We are excited for this new round of challenges in search of innovative solutions for the mining sector," said Claudia Diniz, executive director of Mining Hub.
 
The M-Spot program is organized by the corporate accelerator Neo Ventures, which has over 12 years of experience in projects in the area of innovation. Due to the pandemic, the second cycle will also be carried out through virtual meetings and meetups. The program allows startups to work closely with a large company and have access to its networking, resources and infrastructure to develop solutions.
