VF’s Commitment to Sustainability Pays Off With Seven Zero Waste Distribution Centers

Dec 25, 2015

As part of its efforts to embed sustainable business practices throughout its global business operations, VF Corporation has committed to pursuing zero waste designations for its U.S. distribution centers. This means that at least 95 percent of the waste from these facilities will be diverted from landfills through recycling, composting and reuse.

The company made a significant stride toward this effort today as VF designated seven distribution centers as zero waste facilities. These facilities — in El Paso, T.X.; Hackleburg, Ala.; Luray, Va.; Martinsville, Va.; Mocksville, N.C.; Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; and Seminole, Okla. — represent nearly 40 percent of VF’s 18 distribution centers across the U.S.

“Waste reduction and the responsible use of our natural resources are focal points of our efforts,” said Letitia Webster, Senior Director of Global Corporate Sustainability. “As a leader, the industry is looking to us to chart a responsible course, and while our work is not complete, designating these seven centers as zero waste facilities is a major accomplishment.”

Since 2013, VF’s waste reduction, reuse and recycling efforts across its U.S. distribution center network have led to more than 20,000 metric tons of waste being diverted from landfills. Globally, VF currently diverts approximately 89 percent of its distribution center waste from landfills and is working to increase this percentage.

VF plans to continue exploring opportunities to secure zero waste designation for additional U.S. distribution centers.  In addition, VF is working to reduce waste in product design, operations at VF-owned manufacturing facilities, retail stores and corporate offices.
