Reorganization of the Copper Health Center - patient safety as a priorityation of the Copper Health Center - patient safety as a priority

Jul 17, 2020

The Copper Health Center in Lubin, which belongs to KGHM Polska Miedź SA, is undergoing a thorough reorganization. The goal is to adapt the operating conditions of the facility to the times of the pandemic and the related requirements of the National Health Fund. Patient safety is a priority. More specialist advice and avoiding unnecessary hospital visits are intended to protect patients with comorbidities from unnecessary hospital visits.

In the hospital in Lubin, the hemodynamics laboratory is being renovated, and the renovation of the entire 5th floor is being completed, where the Intensive Care and Anaesthesiology Department will be moved and enlarged.

- The activities undertaken by the MCZ Management Board are inspired by the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the National Health Fund and are dictated by the demand for selected procedures and increasing the safety of patients and staff. The changes also take into account the financial efficiency of the hospital. Our staff consists of professionals, thanks to whom we can develop, thus broaden the scope of treatments and enjoy the trust of our patients - says Piotr Milczanowski, President of the Copper Health Center.

The Management Board of MCZ developed a plan for the more effective use of the database while maintaining the highest priority - patient safety. In August, it is also planned to move the Diabetes Department to building D-7 and connect it with the Department of Internal Medicine. The Diabetology Department will continue to operate under the principles of full autonomy and will fully implement the existing contract with the National Health Fund. The company is not planning to lay off employees.

- The change in the organization of the hospital is dictated by the need to adapt wards to the new challenges faced by the health service in the era of the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. We try to carry out as many procedures as possible on an outpatient basis, hospitalizations are reserved for seriously ill patients and procedures that cannot be performed on an outpatient basis. We have extended the work of most clinics, patients are scheduled for specific hours, we are restoring stationary consultations - said Marek Ścieszka, Vice President of the Copper Health Center.

The plan assumes increasing the number of outpatient consultations, including diabetes consultations in MCZ units in Głogów, Lubin and Legnica. Additionally, contracts with the National Health Fund in the Diabetes Foot Laboratory and in the Laser Therapy Laboratory will be increased.

Further works are planned for next year. Renovations of the Endoscopy Laboratory, Ultrasound Laboratory, Gastrology Department and Cardiac Rehabilitation Department will be continued. In the first quarter of next year, the Implantation Rooms will be opened.
