To all of you who know me, you must realize my pro-police leanings. 12 years as a member of the auxiliary showed me a lot of things the average person never gets to see up close or even think about. I have been reading and following the development of the "armed gunman in the Canadian tire store" like so many others in the north. The difference is regardless of the results I support the police on this one. Both Timmins Police Service and the OPP in handling the situation as per their training and protocols, and I am extremely grateful that no one was hurt. A huge shout out to all personnel involved Police, ambulance, fire depts. and all support services. The police live in an unenviable position of always being wrong when the average Joe does his armchair analysis from the confines of his/her home. They are criticized for acting too fast or too slow, too aggressive or not aggressive enough. The reality of this situation with the size of the building in question, it's really hard for Timmins Police to dispatch enough people to immediately be able to contain the building. The information in the early stages is often not complete and not flowing to the front fast enough to fully establish the seriousness of the event. And as far as all the "bulletproof vests" comments those are not designed to stop the projectiles from most rifles, they are mainly designed to slow the impact of handgun related bullets. Yes I realize it is unnerving to live in the area with the "gunman" not apprehended. But everyone involved did their job to the best of their ability and with the information at hand. So if you don't support them at least have the decency of not spouting off your ignorance. Albert Boucher President and General Manager Jackal Security Inc.
