R.T. Boyd Limited
R. T. Boyd Limited has been a jewellery trade supplier based in Canada since 1956. The original operating business name for R. T. Boyd Limited was Quality Opals of Australia from 1956 until 1982. Dr. Russell Thomas Boyd, the founder and retired president was also one of the founding members of the Canadian Gemmological Association in 1958. The Boyd family are well known in the jewellery, gemmological, mining, and minerals exploration communities in Canada. Warren F. Boyd is the current president of R. T. Boyd Limited.
Warren Boyd is a well travelled gemmologist and geologist who has also worked as a consultant in the development and financing of various colored gemstone and diamond mining operations around the world for more than 25 years. Sourcing coloured gemstones and diamonds has taken him to some of the remotest places in the world including the opal mines of Mexico and Australia, the sapphire mines in Sri Lanka and Thailand, the emerald mines in Colombia, Brazil, and Russia, and the diamond mines in Africa, Siberia, Brazil and northern Canada. In 2007 Warren Boyd was appointed as the Ambassador to Canada for the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), an organization dedicated to the promotion of coloured gemstones and jewellery.
From 1981 to 1985 Warren Boyd was the President of the Canadian Gemmological Association. He has also served in a voluntary position, originally as the Chairman and subsequently as a contributing member, to the Canadian Government & Canadian Jewellery trade committee that has written and continuously edited the Canadian Guidelines With Respect to the Sale and Marketing of Diamonds, Coloured Gemstones and Pearls since the early 1980s.
Warren Boyd is also an experienced rough diamond valuator having trained in Russia, Antwerp, South Africa, and Canada and previously worked as a team member for the Canadian Government Diamond Valuator (CGDV). The CGDV, under contract to the Government of Canada, has the responsibility to value Canada's rough diamond production from the Northwest Territories and elsewhere for royalty assessment purposes. From 1998 until 2006 Warren Boyd was also a director of a British based diamond consultancy firm offering advisory services to governments and diamond mining and exploration companies. In 2007 R. T. Boyd Limited was a founding partner in the formation of Canadian based Algonquian Diamond Counsellors International (ADCi) with Diamond Counsellors International (DCi). ADCi was founded to seek government and mining industry contracts in the valuation of rough diamonds.
Warren Boyd has been a director of public companies searching for diamond deposits in various parts of the world. Until recently he was also the marketing director of Tsar Emerald Corporation that has exploiting the near mythical emerald deposits of the Ural Mountains of Russia.
