University of Waterloo, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

We study all features and processes of Planet Earth and their interactions with human society at temporal scales and spatial scales like no other science.  Our interests are broad, multidisciplinary and versatile, and as such, we embrace all of the sciences.         

 

Our programs reflect this breadth and depth because we believe our students must be equipped to take advantage of the vast diversity of opportunities and challenges afforded to our young professionals in an ever changing marketplace.   Our programs can be tailored to your interests. Within Earth Sciences, we offer Honours B.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Co-op and Regular) that can be unspecialized or streamlined more towards your interests with Specializations in geology, geophysics, or hydrogeology or and Honours B.Sc. in Environmental Science (Co-op or Regular) in environmental geoscience. You can learn more about these programs on our Academic Plans site.  You can customize your program with other programs in Science or elsewhere on campus too.  

 

We work closely with the Association of Professional Geoscientists in Ontario and Geoscientists Canada to ensure you meet the knowledge requirements for accreditation if you choose to do so.  It is a requirement for all professional geoscientists to have a Certificate of Registration, or license to practice in our discipline, a requirement by most prospective employers.
