Bulk Explosives play a critical role in mining, quarrying and construction operations, providing the energy to move a rock mass and reduce it to an optimal size. When it comes to energy, Orica’s Bulk Explosives offer the broadest range of energy on the market.
 
With Bulk products ranging from less than half, to almost triple the Relative Bulk Strength of ANFO, alongside increased flexibility in Velocity of Detonation, customers have greater choice and unprecedented control of blasting outcomes.
 
Through the correct selection and application of Orica Bulk Explosives, customers can make significant improvements to many aspects of their operations, including productivity, safety, production volatility, environmental management, and capital intensity.
 
Orica’s Bulk Explosives range is comprised of: Flexigel™, ANFO, Fortis™, Fortan™, Aquacharge™, Centra™, Civec™, Subtek™, Vistis™ and Vistan™ – and includes products for both surface and underground applications. The range includes specific formulations for reactive ground, hot ground, fume prone ground, longer sleep times, deep holes, and greater heave, just to name a few.

When combined with the precision timing of Orica’s Electronic Blasting Systems and the technology and tools that Orica offers, Orica’s Bulk Explosives have the potential to deliver real value to our customers’ operations.

There are numerous causes of post-blast fumes, including ground conditions, geology, blast design, initiation system, explosive loading technique and explosive selection.  An assessment of current blasting practices and fume quantification are the first steps in formulating a solution to fume problems. The Fortis™ Clear System provides capability to manage the generation of post blast fume. The Fortis™ Clear System is not suitable for ground containing reactive sulphide.
 
The Fortis™ Control bulk emulsion system is a high energy, water resistant pumped product, specifically designed for use in open cut mining applications. Fortis™  Control is a fixed density product and is available in a range of  energies.
 
Fortis™ Control Ammonium Nitrate Emulsion Phase (ANE) is the emulsion component for use by mines to blend with ANFO to produce explosive products on site. It is an explosive emulsion product manufactured from oxidizer solution, fuel, and solid sensitizers.
 
The Fortis™ Eclipse™ Bulk System has been designed specifically to provide explosive performance characteristics best suited to the requirements of open cut mines with mildly reactive ground. Specific densities can be selected to match desired blast performance criteria. It can be used in wet, dry or de-watered blastholes. Product selection should be established by prior Orica laboratory testing.
 
The Fortis™  Extra Series is a high energy bulk emulsion explosive developed to meet the specific demands of surface mines. The  Fortis™  Extra Series of emulsions provide superior performance under wet or dry conditions. The enhanced performance relates to an overall increase to a mine's efficiency and productivity.
 
Fortis™ Extra ANE is a specially designed high energy, unsensitized explosive to meet the demands of surface mines and quarries. This explosive provides superior performance under wet or dry conditions. The enhanced performance relates to an overall increase to a mine's efficiency and productivity.
 
Subtek™ Charge is a primer sensitive pumped bulk explosive. It has the appearance of an opaque fluid similar in viscosity to light grease or heavy oil. Subtek™ Charge has excellent water resistance as an inherent characteristic in the emulsion structure.
 
Subtek™ Charge Ammonium Nitrate Emulsion Phase (ANE) is the emulsion component used to deliver Subtek™ Charge in underground mining operations. It is an explosive emulsion product manufactured from oxidizer solution, fuel and solid sensitizers.
 
Subtek™ Charge V is a booster senstive variable energy emulsion explosive system. It is specially formulated for the demands of today's underground mining industry.
