Guided Actuators

Guided cylinders utilize guide rods mounted parallel to the piston rod to provide stable, non-rotating, high side load performance. SMC offers dual rod, heavy duty and precision actuator models. Like rodless cylinders, SMC guide rod cylinders reduce rod bending, piston bending and uneven seal wear. Low profile guided actuator series are available for restrictive space limitations.

Series MGP is designed for high side load applications found in material handling, lifting and stopping. The cylinder utilizes an ultra-compact design by incorporating the cylinder body as part of the guide body. As the stroke length increases, so does the bearing length, thus enhancing the cylinder's load bearing capacity. Order made options for this series include adjustable air cushions, heavy duty guide rods, copper free, high temperature, and low speed.

Series MGQ is a compact body actuator integrated with internal guide shafts to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals. The MGQM carbon steel alloy slide bearing variant provides lateral stability protecting it from side load impacts. The MGQL high precision ball bushing variant allows for smooth operation that ensures stable travel resistance.

Series MGPS is a compact body actuator integrated with internal oversized guide shafts to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals. The carbon steel alloy slide bearing provides lateral stability protecting it from side load impacts resulting in a non-rotating accuracy of +/-0.05° for 50 mm bore and a non-rotating accuracy of +/-0.04° for 80 mm bore. Compared to the standard MGP, the MGPS increases anti-lateral load by 10%, increases eccentric load resistance by 25% and increases impact load resistance by 140%.

Series MGPA is a compact body actuator integrated with internal guide shafts to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals. The press fitted high precision ball bushing results in a non-rotating accuracy of +/-0.01° across all bore sizes.

Series MGPW is a compact body actuator integrated with internal guide shafts to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the rod and piston seals. The (A) press fitted high precision ball bushing is suitable for minimizing the actuator's plate displacement, with non-rotating accuracy +/-0.01°. The (L) high precision ball bushing allows for smooth operation that ensures stable travel resistance, with non-rotating accuracy +/-0.03°. The (M) carbon steel alloy slide bearing provides lateral stability protecting it from side load impacts, with non-rotating accuracy ranges from +/-0.03° for 63 mm bore to +/-0.05° for 20 mm bore.

Series JMGP compact guided actuators are double acting, compact and lightweight.  The JMGP is suitable for pushing, lifting or clamping applications.

Series MGG integrates a round body cylinder for its power source with external guide rods to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals for a compact and light weight unit. The stroke adjustment (up to 50 mm) can be either on the extend or retract cycle. It is enhanced with shock absorbers at the end of stroke for maximum kinetic energy absorption. Non-rotating accuracy ranging from +/-0.02° for 100 mm bore to +/-0.07° for 20 mm bore.

Series MGC integrates a round body cylinder for its power source with external guide rods to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals for a compact and light weight unit. It is designed with air cushions at the end of stroke for maximum kinetic energy absorption. Non-rotating accuracy ranging from +/-0.04° for 50 mm bore to +/-0.07° for 20 mm bore. Air cushions as standard.

Series MGF low profile guide table integrates a compact cylinder to a large diameter concentric guide sleeve to handle loads applied from any direction providing equal eccentric load resistance through 360°. Using the guide sleeve instead of guide rods reduces the unit's weight by 15% and eliminates eccentric load capacity variances caused by load orientation. An internal non-rotating pin has been added to prevent rotation of the top plate.

Series CXT integrates a compact cylinder's power source via a flexible coupling to the high precision ball bushing bearing guides to isolate the load bearing from the movement of the actuator's rod and seals. Rubber bumpers are standard with optional shock absorbers and stroke adjustment (X138).
