Coating Options

Why the need for different steel coating options on our buildings? Some of our customers store very corrosive products (e.g., potash and urea). Other customers store hay for their livestock operation. While both scenarios are protecting important assets for their respective operations, only one requires a heavy-weight-caliber coating protection to defend against long-term corrosive challenges.

Looking for longevity that will guarantee performance up to 25 years in very corrosive conditions? If so, you’ll have to go beyond the primer paint or galvanized finish. An epoxy paint system will provide protection even in tough working environments like fertilizer storage. As a partner to some of the world’s leading potash producers, we make it our job to understand what customers need in a building to stockpile corrosive products like potash.

When your working environment is humid or involves products that react to the steel frame, you’ll want to ensure you have some protection against corrosion. Galvanization is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel, to reduce the impact of corrosion. For most conditions, a galvanized finish will provide the protection and longevity you need.

What’s the best scenario for primer paint? If the internal working environment has low humidity or is largely free of corrosive conditions, or the building is needed for a short time, then primer paint may be a good option.
