CARLYLE-JOHNSON

The Carlyle Johnson Machine Company designs and manufactures custom industrial clutches and brakes.  For over 100 years they have engineered quality power transmission products, producing electromagnetic, mechanical and pneumatic industrial clutches and brakes to fulfill our customers' unique requirements. Some of the industrial clutches and brakes offered by The Carlyle Johnson Machine Company include FEB Industrial clutches and brakes, AHA industrial clutches and brakes (Hydraulic), EMA Industrial clutches and brakes and many more.

HTB

MAXITORQ® Model HTB brakes are spring applied, multiple disc electric brakes designed to bring a cost effective solution where exceptionally high torque in an extremely small package is required. The modular design, with optional debris cover and/or manual release, provides an “off the shelf” solution to your braking needs. Additional features include minimal power consumption to disengage the brake, reduced engagement/disengagement times and low drag torque.

MAXITORQ® Fail-Safe industrial clutches and brakes offer a solution to the need for a reliable, spring applied, positive-acting clutch to quickly start a wide range of equipment. Precision designed and manufactured, these units have been thoroughly tested to deliver proven, dependable performance in many diverse applications, from heavy-duty machine tools to fragile assembly and packaging equipment.

MAXITORQ®   EMA Industrial Clutches and Brakes deliver 3 to 6 times the torque of single disc electric clutches of the same package size. They provide superior performance and reliability for critical applications. The MAXITORQ®  multiple disc electric clutch design is simple and rugged. The coil housing, supported on dual ball bearings, is held stationary and is kept from rotating with an anti-rotation fitting. Unlike most other industrial clutches and brakes, the MAXITORQ® magnetic flux design does not place any clamping force on the bearings. The result is a longer bearing life due to minimal loading forces.

The MAXITORQ® Disc Pacs can be used with air, hydraulic, electric or manually operated industrial clutches and brakes. The Disc Pac keys to a shaft and is available in eight sizes from 2" to 8" diameter with over 100 variations. The static torque averages from 4 lb. ft. to 2000 lb. ft.  All assembly, disassembly and adjustments are manual. No special tools are required. Standard ring cups and flange driving cups are available if desired. The Disc Pac can be used as a multiple disc clutch or brake, an overload release clutch or a torque-limiting device.

MAXITORQ® torque limiters provides protection against overloads while sustaining torque so that shutdown and restart is not required. Acting like a torsion shock absorber to permit “slip” if the torque exceeds an adjustable pre-set level, these units are used in any application where obstructions can cause overloads or where production is sensitive to over tensioning.

The MAXITORQ® Overload Release clutch is comprised of or standard mechanical multiple disc clutch with overload release features. The overload release occurs as a result of cams placed on the shifter sleeve and drive cup. When an overload occurs the discs slip, causing the cams to come into contact. The shifter or sleeve is then forced into a neutral position.

The MAXITORQ® Multiple Disc industrial mechanical clutches and brakes provide 3 to 6 times the torque produced by single disc clutches and brakes of the same package size, making them the ideal solution for high torque, limited space requirements. The clutch disc features a bronze or steel friction surface for added life, superior consistency for indexing, and excellent torque transmitting characteristics. The units are completely assembled and shipped, ready to be slipped onto a shaft.

The MAXITORQ® multiple disc air or hydraulic spring set clutches and brakes deliver more than ten times the torque of single disc air or industrial hydraulic brakes of the same package size. The floating disc principle incorporates separator springs between brake discs and assures fast disengagement with minimum drag and heat when in neutral. Hardened steel inner friction discs are splined to the body for proper lug-load distribution and operate against bronze-faced steel outer discs, thus providing long wear and smooth operation.

The standard line of spring applied, multiple disc, electric industrial brakes is designed for use as holding brakes, medium duty starting and stopping brakes, and for emergency stopping. Braking torque is applied when the electrical power is removed from the brake coil. This can occur intentionally or when there is a power failure. Removing power from the brake coil releases the compression springs, which clamp the MAXITORQ® multiple friction discs between the brake armature and the stationary end plate, resulting in a constant holding force.
