High Concentration Slurry Disposal

Features:
• Dry material flow is carefully controlled using flow measurement and control technologies
• Ash mixers (pugmills) are used to generate a primary slurry mixture
• The homogeneous mixtures are created using agitated mixing tanks
• Pumping is achieved by using single piston diaphragm or multi-stage centrifugal pumping technologies delivered through a global supply chain
• Variable controlled through pressure monitoring prevent line overloading

Benefits:
• Material discharges in layers enabling vertical filling, hence land fill area is reduced
• Significantly reduced water consumption compared with conventional LCSD
• Increased pressure results in smaller pipe diameters
• More efficient disposal means lower overall power consumption
• Reduced leaching  potential at the disposal area
• Can increase plant operating life by utilising existing ash disposal areas for a longer term.
High Concentration Slurry Disposal
Power generators across the industry are facing challenges to reduce pollutants within their existing processes and perform more eco-friendly methods of plant operation. Clyde Bergemann offers a turnkey environmentally friendly High Concentration Slurry Disposal solution (HCSD) to help operators increase efficiency and reduce water consumption when disposing of ashes to land fill sites.

Conventional lean concentration slurry disposal systems (LCSD) whilst widely adopted through-out the industry do come with a number of significant limitations, such as higher power consumption, large land mass requirement and ground water pollution. These limitations have driven the development and adoption of environmentally friendly ash disposal technologies such as HCSD.

The Clyde Bergemann HCSD system is capable of producing slurry with more than 60% solids by weight, with typical medium to high viscosity enabling natural slopes to form at the disposal area therefore eliminating the need for expensive mechanical spreading and grading equipment.  Due to the low consumption of water in the process virtually no water is released at the ash disposal area therefore eliminating the need for complex water recirculation systems.

Industry Applications

HCSD technologies are available for almost any industry where large consumptions of water are used to transport fine or granular material over long distances through enclosed pipelines.  Key industries include fuel combustion, alumina processing and mining all of which utilise slurry technologies throughout their core processes.  HCSD systems have to date been successfully commissioned to operate at capacities higher than 250m3/hr and for distances up to 11km.   As a total solutions provider Clyde Bergemann can offer a full turnkey HCSD solution based on piston diaphragm or centrifugal pumping technologies depending on the application and customer requirements.
