Canada Nickel Announces High-Grade Nickel Discovery at Bannockburn Property
Canada Nickel Company Inc. has announced promising assay results from its Bannockburn Property, located in the Timmins Mining Camp, with CEO Mark Selby describing the findings as “very exciting.” Drillhole BAN24-18 intersected 4.0 metres of massive sulphide within a peridotite zone, showing nickel grades of up to 4.65% over a one-metre interval and 3.95% nickel over 4 metres, marking one of the highest-grade nickel discoveries this year.
“These results underscore the potential of our district-scale land package,” said Selby. “Our exploration efforts are revealing significant nickel resources with high-grade intervals, and we look forward to further unlocking the potential of the Bannockburn F-Zone target, along with other promising conductors on the property.”
Bannockburn Property Overview
Situated 65 kilometres south of Timmins and 20 kilometres west of Matachewan, Ontario, the Bannockburn Property is one of Canada Nickel’s key exploration sites in the Timmins region. While the company has primarily focused on the B-Zone’s low-grade, high-tonnage nickel deposits, recent results have highlighted new high-grade prospects in the F-Zone.
Exciting Results in the F-Zone
Drilling in the Bannockburn F-Zone has yielded nickel concentrations of 3.95% over 4 metres, with an especially high interval of 4.65% nickel over 1 metre. The overall 12-metre drillhole registered 1.61% nickel, emphasizing the F-Zone’s potential for high-grade mineralization. This zone had previously been drilled by Outokumpu Mining Oy and Mustang Minerals Corp., which reported a 2.9% nickel concentration over 2.8 metres about 50 metres east of the current drillhole, further supporting Bannockburn’s high-grade potential.
To advance exploration, Canada Nickel has initiated a borehole electromagnetic (BHEM) survey to assess the extent and size of the sulphide mineralization. This survey is expected to guide the placement of additional drillholes to better define the mineralized system.
Broader Exploration Efforts
Beyond the F-Zone, Canada Nickel is also investigating similar high-potential targets in the B-Zone, based on findings from a semi-airborne EM survey conducted in summer 2024 by Rosor Corp. This survey identified two new conductive targets within the B-Zone, indicating potential for additional high-grade discoveries.
