Canada Nickel unveils Initial Mineral Resource Estimate for Reid Project

Dec 27, 2024

By Kevin Vincent

“The size and scale of the Reid resource, significantly larger than the initial Crawford resource, validates our belief in the potential of the Timmins Nickel District,” said Mark Selby, CEO. “Reid’s footprint is more than twice the size of our Crawford project, and it is only the second of seven new mineral resources we expect to announce by mid-2025. This reinforces the district’s potential as a world-class nickel hub.”

Canada Nickel Company has unveiled its initial mineral resource estimate for the 100%-owned Reid Nickel Sulphide Project near Timmins, Ontario. Reid, located 16 kilometres southwest of the flagship Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project, is geophysically estimated to cover 3.9 square kilometres—more than double the size of Crawford. The current resource estimate covers approximately 55% of Reid’s target area and was enabled by the year-round access road completed in 2024.

Reid Mineral Resource Estimate

The initial resource estimate, based on 26,508 metres of core drilling across 55 drill holes, reports:

Indicated Resources: 0.59 billion tonnes grading 0.24% nickel, containing 1.4 million tonnes of nickel.

Inferred Resources: 0.99 billion tonnes grading 0.23% nickel, containing 2.2 million tonnes of nickel.

The resource spans 2.2 kilometres in length, 900 metres in width, and extends to a depth of 700 metres. It remains open in multiple directions, offering significant exploration upside. An additional 0.9–2.1 billion tonnes, grading between 0.20–0.22% nickel, have been identified as an exploration target pending further drilling.

Drilling campaigns in 2022 and 2024 aimed to infill previous sections, deepen geological understanding, and collect mineralogical data to inform future recovery potential.

Next Steps

The company plans to file a technical report on the Reid Mineral Resource Estimate within 45 days. Further mineralogical studies, metallurgical test work, and infill drilling will continue through 2025 to upgrade the resource.

Exploration Update

Canada Nickel’s 2024 exploration program highlights its commitment to unlocking the potential of the Timmins Nickel District. The company has drilled 59 holes at Reid for a total of 34,615 metres since acquiring the project. Additional drilling highlights from 2024 include:

• 32 holes at Crawford to better define the PGM Zone.

• 26 holes at Texmont.

• 93 holes at Mann.

• 16 holes at Bannockburn.

• 12 holes at Midlothian.

Canada Nickel aims to publish five more resource estimates by mid-2025, further showcasing the district’s world-class potential.
