Bio:
Cory Robin joins us from our Timmins Office where he provides business financing and supports to Indigenous small businesses since 2013. A graduate of Northern College’s business program, he is a lifelong Timmins resident and a proud member of Kashechewan First Nation. In 2020 Cory was appointed to Timmins City Council representing the residents of Ward 5. Cory is community minded serving on various boards and committees throughout the community. In his downtime Cory spend time with his family with a focus on culinary adventures with his wife Melissa and 3 children.

Bio:

• Has been involved in economic development for 24 years
• She is the Loans Manager at Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF).
• She is member of a small Cree community, Peawanuck First Nation, located on the Hudson Bay coast.
• She resides in Timmins with her husband Dean
• Kim is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
• Volunteers on committees, including, The Starter Company and the Timmins Indigenous Organization Committee
• Enjoys creating jewelry, clothing, mukluks, slippers, pottery
• Loves outdoors, kayaking is her newest adventure.

Christine Heavens

MBA, C.E.T, Executive Director, Community, Business Development and Employment Services, Northern College

Bio:
As a member of Northern College’s Senior Management Team, Ms. Heavens brings a wealth of knowledge related to Northern College’s culturally inclusive, customized, and flexible learning strategies while focusing on building strong community and business partnerships.  Her teams excel in developing wrap-around and whole-person collaborative success plans that help ensure student, industry, and community success. Her collaborative efforts and innovative means of removing barriers to education have granted her respect in developing strategies, economic plans, proposals, and partnerships, specifically in support of the mining extractive sector.  Ms. Heavens is a resource to Northern College’s Indigenous Council and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion task force.  She represents the College at Ontario’s Provincial Heads of Apprenticeship Committee, Workforce Development College Committee, Heads of Continuing Education Committee, and is a long-standing Director of the Far Northeast Training Board. Christine has an Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA), is a Certified Engineering Technologist, a Survey Technician, and is a certified College and University Administrator.
 

Jacob Dockstator

JD, MBA, BA, Executive Director, Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Economic Development

Bio:
Jake Dockstator is Mohawk and a member of Oneida of the Thames First Nation and received a traditional education from a young age. Jake received his undergraduate degree majoring in Indigenous Studies at Trent University before moving on to complete his Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School and thereafter his Masters of Business Administration from the Degroote School of Business at McMaster University. Prior to joining the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Jake Dockstator worked in private debt and high finance, managing a portfolio of over $200MM across Western Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. In his present role as the inaugural Executive Director of the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Economic Development Corporation, Jake works closely with the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and the four signatory communities, Lac Seul, Cat Lake, Slate Falls and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (also known as Big Trout Lake First Nation) to carry out a shared vision of developing vibrant communities and improving the quality of life in our communities and the region as a whole.

Jacob is also a Member of the Board of Directors for the Ontario First Nations Technical Skills Corporation.

Michael Fox

President & CEO, Indigenous Community Engagement (ICE)

Bio: 
Michael is the President/CEO of Indigenous Community Engagement (ICE) – one of Canada’s leading national Indigenous firms specializing in community consultation, facilitation/negotiations, capacity building, & enterprise development. He brings a wealth of experience in structuring projects and financing for both industry and Indigenous clients. He obtained an honours degree in Political Science with a focus on Aboriginal Law & Resource Development and has an MBA with a specialization in Social Enterprise. He is a Certified Professional Facilitator, a certified Change Management Practitioner, and a certified Professional Aboriginal Economic Developer. He is the Co-Chair of the Indigenous Affairs Committee for the PDAC and is the Co-Chair for the Jury Panel for the Progressive Aboriginal Relations program at the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, where he was a board member for 6 years.  He’s a believer in higher education and has taught university courses to share his professional experiences with the next generation of Indigenous business leaders. He’s originally from Weenusk First Nation. He is currently a candidate for a doctorate degree in business administration.

Jason Rasevych

Bio:
Jason Rasevych is an Anishinaabe from Ginoogaming First Nation and has 20 years of marketing, finance, strategy, governance, economic development experience with various First Nations across Canada. In 2018, he was recognized as one of Canada’s Top Economic Developers and has secured more than $250 million for capital projects, legacy infrastructure, and business expansion with First Nations. Jason has deep knowledge of First Nation rights and the resource sector through his involvement in complex negotiations between First Nations, Industry and Government. He has led First Nations to precedent setting agreements in the mining, forestry, energy, and broadband sectors resulting in equity for Indigenous peoples in natural resources and ownership of enabling infrastructure. In 2019, he co-founded the Anishnawbe Business Professional Association to advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous business in pursuit of economic reconciliation in Canada.  Jason also leads Deloitte’s Indigenous Client services and the trust administration practice that supports First Nations and Trustees to manage approximately $1 Billion in invested funds, and supports the growth, education and development of First Nations and its members.

The Drivers of Change theme featured speakers will address a crowd of key staff members, manufacturers and stakeholders that are looking to increase production, decrease costs and help to achieve the Zero Emission goals and change in the mining sector.

An updated version of the Hiring Forecast for the mining industry will be released at the event. Grade 11 and 12 students from across the region will be invited to hear from young workers who have pursued a career in mining. 
 

Awareness Campaign that promotes career oppotunities in the Mining Sector for students and youth

Why?
To encourage students and young people planning their career to consider the mining sector as an option.

How?
High school students from across the region will be invited to hear from young workers who are pursuing a career in mining, right here in our region. Who better to inform and inspire the future generation of workers than young people who have ‘explored their options in mining’?
