First Mining Gold Reports Positive Drill Results at Springpole Gold Project

First Mining Gold Corp. has announced the final drilling results from its 2024 East Extension Phase 1 diamond drilling program at the Springpole Gold Project in northwestern Ontario. The five-hole, 2,293-meter campaign targeted resource expansion opportunities extending east of the project's main mineral resource.
Drill Program Highlights:
-
Hole SP24-011 returned two broad mineralization intervals: 0.75 g/t gold and 3.30 g/t silver over 134.2 meters, and 0.67 g/t gold and 12.79 g/t silver over 105.4 meters.
-
Hole SP24-009 and previously reported hole SP24-007 also delivered favorable gold and silver grades aligned with the established resource profile.
-
Results confirm significant potential for direct mineralization expansion beyond the existing open-pit profile.
The East Extension Phase 1 drilling program successfully intersected continuous mineralization in an underexplored portion of the project, located within the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) open-pit development footprint. These results suggest an opportunity to reclassify material currently categorized as "waste" into "ore" in the proposed run-of-mine pit design—potentially reducing the strip ratio and increasing the total processed ore.
CEO Commentary: “Our advancements continue to demonstrate the Springpole Project as a robust gold and silver resource development opportunity within an important mining region of Ontario,” said Dan Wilton, CEO of First Mining. “The results from the East Extension are especially encouraging as they reveal additional gold and silver mineralization inside the existing mine footprint, potentially converting waste to ore. As we progress through the Environmental Assessment process, we believe the Springpole Project will become a key economic and sustainable infrastructure driver for Northwestern Ontario communities.”
Next Steps: The company will integrate the latest drill results into an updated 3D model while refining exploration plans for the East Extension target and other near-pit brownfield opportunities. The East Extension remains open along strike to the south and southeast of the main Portage Zone, presenting potential for further mineralization extension or additional zones within the proposed PFS open-pit shell.
Figures and tables detailing drill hole locations, assay highlights, and the exploration target area are available in the company’s latest release.
