McEwen Mining hits High-Grade Results for Expansion Potential at Grey Fox
By Kevin Vincent
McEwen Mining Inc. has announced promising new assay results and geological insights from its Grey Fox deposit, part of the Fox Complex in the Timmins region of Ontario. The results, including a highlight of 10.2 g/t gold over 11.1 metres at the Whiskey Jack zone, underscore the deposit’s significant potential for expansion and development.
Highlights from Grey Fox
1. High-Grade Results: Drill hole results at Whiskey Jack confirm the presence of high-grade mineralization, with stacked epithermal gold-bearing veins adjacent to an orogenic gold system.
2. Depth and Expansion Potential:
• Over 90% of Grey Fox’s current resource lies within 300 metres from surface, primarily in epithermal quartz breccia veins.
• Geological modeling indicates the deposit remains open at depth, with potential mineralization below the “boiling zone” typical of epithermal systems.
• The presence of 50 distinct mineralized lenses over a compact area of 1.3 km² suggests a long-lived and robust mineralizing system.
3. Exploration Potential: Geological comparisons between Grey Fox and the world-renowned Hishikari Gold Mine in Japanpoint to the possibility of a similar high-grade epithermal vein system coexisting with orogenic gold zones.
Geological Context and Strategy
Grey Fox comprises six zones (Gibson, Whiskey Jack, Contact, 147, 147NE, and Grey Fox South), all within 3 km of the Black Fox Mine, historically a 1-million-ounce orogenic gold producer. The project’s mineralization includes both epithermal vein systems and orogenic lenses, offering multiple styles of gold deposition.
Key Geological Insights:
• Surface mineralized zones strike northeast-southwest, consistent with other deposits in the Fox Complex.
• The Gibson Zone has yielded new lenses since the last resource update in 2021, characterized by narrow, steeply dipping epithermal veins. These are in close proximity to the historical Gibson Ramp, offering potential for underground or open-pit mining.
2025 Drill Campaign
McEwen Mining has allocated $9.7 million for a 69,500-metre drill campaign starting January 6, 2025. The campaign’s objectives include:
1. Adding near-term production ounces, focusing on Gibson and Whiskey Jack zones.
2. Testing geophysical anomalies in underexplored areas to refine the geological model.
Fox Complex Resource Update
An updated Mineral Resource Estimate for the entire Fox Complex, including Grey Fox (current resource of 1.4 million Indicated and Inferred ounces) and Stock (current resource of 0.46 million Indicated and Inferred ounces), will be released in Q1 2025.
Chairman’s Statement
“Our exploration at Grey Fox is generating an exciting future for the Fox Complex,” said Rob McEwen, Chairman and Chief Owner. “The dual mineralization styles, coupled with the depth potential, offer the opportunity to significantly expand our production profile while exploring untapped geological potential.”
About Grey Fox
Grey Fox is located in the southern part of the Black Fox property in the Timmins gold district. Its geological similarity to high-grade mines like Hishikari and its proximity to the Black Fox Mine underline its strategic importance within McEwen Mining’s portfolio.
With exploration advancing and resource updates pending, Grey Fox continues to emerge as a cornerstone project for McEwen Mining’s future growth.
