Mines D’Or Orbec Inc. Resumes Exploration at Muus Gold Project in Québec

Dec 16, 2024

Mines D’Or Orbec Inc. has announced the resumption of exploration activities at its 100%-owned Muus Gold Project near Chibougamau, Québec. This phase aims to define drill targets within the extension of the structure hosting IAMGOLD Inc.’s multi-million-ounce Nelligan gold project, which lies adjacent to Muus.

The exploration program will include a high-definition drone-based magnetic survey conducted by Terrascope Inc. The survey spans approximately 2,558 line-kilometres at 35-metre line spacing, targeting a strategic area identified for its alignment with significant gold-in-till geochemical anomalies—among the highest recorded in Québec. This data will complement historical close-spaced magnetic data from other portions of the property, which will be merged into a comprehensive geophysical dataset.

“The company is excited by the exploration potential at the highly prospective, 100%-owned Muus gold project near Chibougamau, Québec,” said Dorian L. (Dusty) Nicol, CEO. “The target area was chosen because it lies on the extension of the structure hosting Nelligan, where it coincides with our spectacular gold-in-till geochemical anomalies. These anomalies, combined with historic drill data and ongoing structural geological interpretation, provide a compelling basis for targeting.”

Nicol emphasized the significance of high-definition magnetics in defining mineralized structures, stating that such data played a pivotal role in IAMGOLD’s early discovery efforts at Nelligan. “This survey will be completed early in the new year and will significantly contribute to our goal of defining high-quality drill targets at Muus,” he added.

Muus Gold Project Overview

The Muus Project spans approximately 25,250 hectares in the northeastern part of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Adjacent to and on strike with IAMGOLD Inc.’s +5-million-ounce Nelligan Gold Project, the Muus property is considered highly prospective for gold mineralization. Recent fieldwork has also identified potential for copper-gold volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization in the northern portion of the property, as well as high-grade gold deposits similar to IAMGOLD’s nearby Monster Lake deposit.

In collaboration with IAMGOLD Inc., which holds an 8.3% ownership stake in the Company, Orbec is advancing exploration with a focus on leveraging its technical and geological expertise. The magnetic survey represents the next critical step in unlocking the property’s full potential.

The company expects the survey to be completed by early 2025, with data analysis and drill target definition following shortly thereafter. This work will set the stage for future drilling campaigns aimed at making a significant discovery on this promising project.
