Northstar Gold Discovers New Copper Zone at Miller Copper-Gold Property Near Kirkland Lake

Jan 10, 2025

Northstar Gold Corp. has completed a 7-hole, 1,465-metre diamond drill program at its 100%-owned Miller Copper-Gold Property, located 18 kilometres southeast of Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Conducted in partnership with Wiijiiwaagan Drilling Limited Partnership, a collaboration between Boart Longyear and Matachewan First Nation, the program targeted copper-gold-silver volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization and geophysical anomalies extending 1,000 metres southeast of the historic Cam Copper Mine.

Key Discovery: New 15.76 Metre Copper Zone

Drill hole CC-07 uncovered a near-surface, 15.76-metre interval of sub-seafloor replacement-style chalcopyrite mineralization between 47.24 and 63 metres depth. This zone, located 500 metres southeast of Cam Copper Mine Zone 2, aligns with a historic surface trench containing massive chalcopyrite and bornite that returned assays of up to 17.9% copper and 16.2 g/t silver. This new copper zone remains open along strike and at depth, with assay results expected by late January 2025.

“The discovery of this significant copper zone marks a critical milestone in our exploration of the Miller Copper-Gold Property,” said Brian Fowler, CEO of Northstar Gold. “The mineralization, proximity to known high-grade zones, and strong geological associations suggest excellent potential for expansion, warranting aggressive follow-up exploration.”

Drilling Observations and Potential

The 2024 program encountered multiple sulphide mineralization zones associated with gabbro intrusive contacts and mafic to intermediate tuffs, indicating that gabbro bodies may be the primary metal and heat source driving the VMS systems. Additional observations include:

Besshi-Type Features: Chalcopyrite replacing magnetite in CC-07 mirrors characteristics of globally significant deposits such as Windy Craggy in British Columbia and Outokumpu in Finland.

Footwall Gabbro Expansion: Re-logging of 2023 drill holes at Zone 2 revealed lensoidal gabbro bodies with positive grade-thickness correlations. These gabbros appear to expand at depth, enhancing the prospectivity of the Zone 2 copper lens.

Geophysical and Trenching Success: The integration of ground geophysical surveys, prospecting, and trenching has proven highly effective in defining near-surface VMS and replacement-style copper targets.

Planned Follow-Up Exploration

Building on the success of the 2023 and 2024 programs, Northstar plans to conduct detailed magnetic and geochemical surveys, as well as additional drilling in 2025, to further define the new copper zone and explore untested areas.
