Ophir Expands Lithium Footprint at Pilipas with Promising Drill Results
Ophir Metals Corp. has announced positive assay results from its 2024 drill program at the Pilipas Lithium Property in Quebec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. The campaign, comprising 23 drillholes totaling 3,065 meters, focused on expanding the HW1 and HW2 spodumene pegmatites. Assay results for 21 drillholes confirm significant extensions of lithium mineralization at HW1, with the remaining two drillholes pending analysis.
“We are excited with the results from our inaugural drill program at Pilipas. We have successfully expanded the mineralized footprint at HW1 over a strike length of ~300 m. The widths and grades of lithium mineralization are very impressive, and we look forward to utilizing these results to guide future exploration efforts at Pilipas in 2025,” said Shawn Westcott, CEO.
Key Highlights
• Drillhole PLP24-007: Intersected 53.2 m at 1.22% Li2O, including 22.3 m at 1.70% Li2O, targeting the northern extension of HW1.
• Drillhole PLP24-011: Intersected 46.5 m at 1.00% Li2O within a broader interval of 71.18 m at 0.79% Li2O.
• Drillhole PLP24-003: Returned 16.5 m at 0.99% Li2O beneath the northern edge of the HW1 outcrop.
• Drillhole PLP24-019: Indicated the HW1 pegmatite remains open to the north and intersected a 0.5 m quartz vein yielding 4.76 g/t Au, emphasizing the project’s multi-commodity potential.
HW1 Pegmatite Expansion
Drilling extended the HW1 mineralized pegmatite by 150 meters to the north and to a depth of 90 vertical meters. The strike length now spans approximately 300 meters from the southern edge of the discovery outcrop. Notable mineralization from PLP24-007 and PLP24-011 suggests significant potential for further exploration, especially as geological modeling progresses.
Program Overview and Next Step
The 2024 drill campaign included 19 holes at HW1 (2,655 meters) and 4 holes at HW2 (410 meters). Results from two drillholes, PLP24-013 and PLP24-021, are pending. Final interpretations and geological modeling will refine targets for the 2025 exploration campaign.
Ophir’s exploration efforts at Pilipas are strategically positioned near key infrastructure, including hydroelectric power and all-season road access. These logistical advantages, coupled with the promising drill results, reinforce the property’s potential as a significant lithium and multi-commodity project.
