Pan American Silver says exploration a success at Whitney Project
By Kevin Vincent
Pan American Silver Corp. has announced promising exploration results from its Whitney Project near Timmins, Ontario, as part of its annual exploration update. With ongoing drilling programs yielding high-grade gold intersections, the company underscores the potential for significant organic growth across its portfolio.
“The success of our exploration program highlights the potential for long-term organic growth at many of our assets,” said Christopher Emerson, Vice President of Exploration and Geology. “Based on the results we were achieving in exploration this year, we increased our drill budget to over 450,000 metres for 2024.”
Key Results from the Whitney Project
The Whitney Project, situated 4.5 kilometers south of Pan American’s Bell Creek processing plant, is a joint venture with Newmont Corporation, with Pan American holding an 83.27% stake. Recent exploration efforts focused on the Hallnor/Bonetal and Broulan Reef zones, located along the mineralized trend near Newmont’s Pamour open pit.
From November 2023 to September 2024, Pan American drilled 16,941 metres, confirming existing resources at Hallnor/Bonetal and historic resources at Broulan Reef.
Highlights from the Hallnor/Bonetal Zone:
• 2.7 metres at 19.89 g/t Au (TW24-758)
• 7.2 metres at 31.50 g/t Au (TW24-771)
• 11.7 metres at 3.28 g/t Au, including 4.5 metres at 5.98 g/t Au (TW23-750)
• 13.7 metres at 2.11 g/t Au, including 7.3 metres at 3.27 g/t Au (TW23-751)
Significant Results from Broulan Reef:
• 2.4 metres at 360.18 g/t Au, including 0.4 metres at 1,940 g/t Au and 0.3 metres at 140 g/t Au (TW24-793)
• 7.6 metres at 6.26 g/t Au (TW24-786)
• 0.3 metres at 378.00 g/t Au (TW24-802)
• 4.3 metres at 4.69 g/t Au (TW24-804)
The June 30, 2024 mineral resource estimate for the Whitney Project includes 77,900 ounces of gold in the indicated category and 477,700 ounces in the inferred category.
Strategic Importance of Whitney Project
The Whitney Project lies in one of Canada’s most prolific gold mining regions. Its proximity to Pan American’s Bell Creek processing plant and Newmont’s Pamour open pit positions it as a strategically important asset for future development.
Pan American’s ability to confirm and expand high-grade gold zones within this joint venture reinforces the project’s long-term growth potential.
