Thunder Bay's CEDC, Project Manager-Mining, John Mason Welcomes Mining Industry to Virtual Mining Event

Nov 14, 2021

Thunder Bay Host's Mining The NorthWest Virtual Event November 30th, December 1st and 2nd

I would like to begin by acknowledging that Thunder Bay is on the Traditional Territory of Fort William First Nation, signatories to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850 and we also acknowledge the shared lands of the Metis peoples. This is out of respect and recognition for the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is thrilled to partner on the Mining the Northwest Expo & Conference hosted by Canadian Trade-Ex. The goal of the event is to connect Northwestern mines and the major exploration projects with exploration/mine service and supply businesses, indigenous businesses, workforce training organizations, post-secondary institutions, research entities, and individuals seeking mining careers.

Over the duration of the event we hope meaningful relationships are built through the presentations, virtual career, education and training fair as well as the Partner with Procurement event.

The event will include many opportunities for:

  • Mine Procurement Managers to directly connect with mine service and supply companies to drive business at the construction and operational levels (Partner with Procurement)
  • Human Resources personnel to connect with prospective new employees and students, to identify career paths (Career Fair)
  • Participation in technical presentations from senior staff about the mines or major exploration projects

Promotion of the training, education, innovation and research in mining/exploration
Showcasing precious metals, base metals and critical mineral (battery metal) projects.

Thunder Bay is an exploration and mining hub, working in concert with industry and Northwestern Ontario municipalities and indigenous communities on mineral sector opportunities.
The city is home to 400+ mine service and supply businesses and 850 mine employees. Both of these statistics are forecast to grow on the back of a strong mining future in Northwestern Ontario. In this issue of the Mining Life Magazine you will read the many exciting stories about Northwestern Ontario’s mining industry.
I am pleased to see the mines and major exploration projects in Northwestern Ontario are well represented at “Mining the Northwest” and the many exploration/mine supply and service companies are participating as well!  I trust you will enjoy the event and wish you well with your projects!
