Timmins Mayor George Pirie lauds Canada Nickel for First Nations Agreements

Dec 24, 2020

Timmins mayor George Pirie has commended Canada Nickel for its recently announced Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wabun Tribal Council and Tagamou Nation.

“These MOUs are great news for the region,” said Mayor Pirie.  “These mutually beneficial business arrangements will help move the Crawford Nickel-Cobalt Sulphide project closer to permitting, and promises to create direct mining jobs and to sustain jobs in our mining supply industry.

“These MOUs are excellent examples of First Nation-Industry partnerships that respect Traditional Territory,” continued Mayor Pirie.  “These are excellent agreements which are examples of Indigenous ownership which we have been advocating for.  They fit with the City’s Indigenous philosophy and of course our diversification goals.”

Canada Nickel’s Crawford Nickel-Cobalt Sulphide project will deliver Net Zero nickel and cobalt products, located in our Porcupine Mining Camp.
