Volta Metals Confirms High-Grade Lithium and Rare Metal Potential at ZigZag Property

Jan 14, 2025

Volta Metals Ltd. has announced promising assay results from the first sampling program at its ZigZag Property, located in the Thunder Bay Mining District of Northwest Ontario. The assays confirm high-grade lithium, tantalum, cesium, rubidium, and gallium mineralization within the Dempster East pegmatite, which lies just 7 kilometers west of the company’s Falcon West Lithium Project.

“The Dempster East pegmatite displays strong evidence of a highly evolved mineral system,” stated Dr. Fred Breaks, the company’s technical advisor. “The elevated levels of tantalum, cesium, rubidium, and gallium highlight the potential for significant discoveries as exploration progresses. These results align with some of the most evolved pegmatites in the region, including deposits at the North and South Aubry zones.”

Highlights of the Sampling Program

Lithium: Average grades of 1.49% Li₂O, with samples ranging from 0.22% to 3.26% Li₂O, compare favorably to historical averages of 1.88% Li₂O at Dempster East.

Tantalum: Enriched levels averaging 229 ppm, with a maximum of 457 ppm, indicating strong potential for this valuable specialty metal.

Cesium: High cesium content averaging 712 ppm, with a peak of 1,970 ppm, suggesting a transition to a complex-type pegmatite system.

Rubidium: Mean values of 3,006 ppm (ranging from 995 to 4,920 ppm) and favorable K/Rb ratios indicative of advanced pegmatite fractionation.

Gallium: Elevated levels across all samples, averaging 58 ppm and peaking at 78.1 ppm, underline its potential as a critical mineral for advanced technologies.

Geological Insights and Exploration Potential

The ZigZag Property is situated within the Caribou Greenstone Belt, a structurally favorable region for lithium pegmatite discovery. The Dempster East pegmatite, historically identified in 1956, has an inferred length of 56 meters and lies on a small hill, suggesting significant size potential.

Volta’s recent assays support the hypothesis of increasingly evolved pegmatites across the structural fairway, particularly between Dempster East and Falcon West. The area remains underexplored, with five additional structural targets identified for follow-up exploration.

Next Steps

Volta plans a robust exploration campaign in 2025, which will include:

• Stripping and prospecting to expose additional pegmatite zones.

• Mapping and structural studies to refine the geological model.

• Geophysical surveys to identify further targets along the east-to-southwest trend.

• Initial discovery drilling to test priority targets.

“This discovery underscores the vast potential of our ZigZag and Falcon West properties,” said Volta’s CEO. “The data gathered so far positions us to advance exploration aggressively and unlock the district-scale potential of our land package.”

The presence of high-grade lithium and rare metals such as gallium and tantalum bolsters Volta’s strategic positioning within the critical minerals sector, further aligning with global demand for materials driving clean energy and advanced technologies.
