John Martin Earns IPD Award of Excellence

Apr 16, 2013
PORTSMOUTH, NH, April 16, 2013 — Anvil International, one of the largest and most complete manufacturers of pipe fittings, pipe hangers and piping support systems in the world, is pleased to announce that Mr. John Martin, vice president of national account sales for Anvil International’s mechanical products division, has been selected to receive the IPD Award of Excellence by the Executive Council of the American Supply Association’s (ASA) Industrial Piping Division. This is the first time a representative from the vendor community has been chosen for this distinguished award.

Martin is a long-standing member of the ASA. Over the years, Martin participated as head spokesman for Anvil for the ASA, spearheaded group meetings and conventions and co-founded the Education Foundation. Martin was nominated for the IPD Award of Excellence, and as the first manufacturer to receive the IPD Award of Excellence, this is significant recognition of his involvement in the organization.

“I just feel fortunate to even have been nominated for this award,” said Martin. “It’s a huge honor.”

The award is a highlight in a long, distinguished career for John Martin. For more than 40 years, he has provided guidance to members of the industrial and mechanical PVF industry, holding positions that ranged from inventory control to regional vice president of the West Coast for Anvil International. After beginning his career in Dallas in 1968, Martin managed branches in Ohio, Colorado and California. He is now settled in Denver as vice president of national account sales.

“My dad always told me ‘Find a good place and stick with it,’” Martin recalled. “I’ve been with Anvil through the different owners and name changes for almost 45 years. It’s been a wonderful time overall and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Martin has been honored several times before, most notably by the Mechanical Contractors Association, with the Philanthropic Award in 2002 and again the Distinguished Service Award in 2007.

Martin received the IPD Award of Excellence during the Weldbend IPD Breakfast on October 19, 2012, at the NetworkASA 2012: OWN IT in Orlando, Florida.
