BSL Casting: Customized Solutions for High-Corrosion Resistant Steel Casting

One of our partners  – Institut Maurice-Lamontagne (a division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada)- was concerned to loose expensive oceanographic measurement equipments in the sea because of corrosion of the retaining loops that fix the equipment in the bottom of the sea. They were looking for a high-corrosion resistant alloy to prevent the retaining loop to degrade and then loose their equipment in a high salty water environment at 339 meters deep in the St-Lawrence estuary.

 

BSL Casting has supplied a special duplex stainless steel alloy and the retaining loop successfully withstanded these difficult conditions after being immersed in the sea during 5 months (from july to november 2011). The parts were taken out of the water with no trace of corrosion (see attached pics).
