Jason Cox started right out of high school working in his family’s business, a successful custom tarp and fabric building manufacturer, supplying distributors and consumers throughout Atlantic Canada and Maine and employing 40 people. For three years he worked in manufacturing, but in 1999 decided to further his education and learn the business end of the operation.

After graduating college with a marketing degree, Cox returned to the family business and worked in sales. His sales research revealed a huge demand for their products in other parts of North America. He knew shipping costs with their current provider would be reasonable because of their already large volumes. And by shipping factory direct, product prices would be even more competitive.

So in 2004 Cox started a second company, Cover-Tech, Inc., to distribute his family’s products across North America at factory direct prices. The products quickly gained interest through internet marketing, and sales were immediate. Reputation grew quickly and testimonials poured in by phone and email. Cover-Tech has since introduced new, equally successful product lines. Among the best: the Quick Build Container, manufactured in Germany by BOS (Best of Steel) and already very successful throughout Europe.

Recognized the growing demand for storage on this side of the Atlantic, Cox ordered a load of Quick Build Containers to test the market. When they sold out in no time, Cox began negotiations with BOS for territory and distribution rights, and Cover-Tech was granted the North American distribution rights for BOS products.

About a year later Cox received a call from John Smith, who presented his own idea for the Quick Build Container: a Self-Storage Franchise with the option to rent and sell the container. They discussed partnership, but distance between Smith in Saskatoon, SK and Cox in Woodstock, NB, presented obstacles. Instead, John Smith formed The S.A.F.E. Co., and Cover-Tech granted him exclusive rights to the Quick Build Container product line.
