Saint Lawrence Mine

MINE SITE

Canadian Wollastonite (CW) is located approximately 30 km North of Kingston, Ontario and the property straddles the City of Kingston and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.

SAINT LAWRENCE WOLLASTONITE DEPOSIT

The Saint Lawrence Wollastonite Deposit (SLWD) is a mineral formation that extends over approximately 1.2 km and contains a calculated 9.6 Mt of wollastonite ore. This ore yields high-aspect ratio crystals and is considered high-purity with low levels of Iron and Manganese. CW’s deposit is high in relief with little to no overburden and has elevations reaching 50m above the surrounding fields and roadways.

ECOLOGICAL FEATURES

CW doesn’t just offset mining activities but strives to improve the local ecology with the addition of 15,500 trees, an artificial wetland optimized for nesting birds, and an expansion to an existing wetland. Recent years have seen a marked increase in purple martins, ducks, and bats.

The structure of the Saint Lawrence Wollastonite Deposit means that less than 15% of the approx. 220 hectares of land CW owns will be disturbed by mining activities. This gives CW the opportunity to use the remaining land for future ecological projects.

Canadian Wollastonite is motivated to leave the animal species living on the property as undisturbed as possible in order to avoid upsetting natural territories like the one held by this local black bear. The majority of the property is covered with the original deciduous forest, most of which will remain untouched.
