Blue Heron - The Company
 
Blue Heron was established in 2004 with the interest of providing practical assistance to resource based companies. Through experience gained from extensive work in the environmental field, Blue Heron staff are equipped provide assistance for all aspects of environmental management for your facility. From grass roots site risk assessments, to full development and implementation of certifiable integrated Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems, Blue Heron can provide the level of service your organization requires.

 
Blue Heron - The People

Linda Byron-Fortin, of Blue Heron, is a professional Environmental Scientist who has been working in the environmental field since 1990. Ms. Byron-Fortin has an honours Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University, and has extensive operational expertise in the practical, real-life environmental issues encountered in the mining industry. Ms. Byron-Fortin has been instrumental in the implementation of Certified Environmental Management Systems at large base-metal mining companies in Northern Ontario, Canada, and has assisted other resource-based industries in practical aspects of implementing and maintaining an effective EMS. She has also assisted industries with permitting efforts as well as development and implementation of compliance and training programs for mining operations in Canada and abroad.
 

Laura Wareham, Senior Environmental Specialist, joined Blue Heron in late 2012. Mrs. Wareham has over 10 years of environmental, quality and safety industrial working experience within North America and Europe. Ms. Wareham has practical technical experience dealing with environmental and compliance issues within the manufacturing industry including the closure and decommissioning of facilities. Consequently, Ms. Wareham brings a wealth of working knowledge and direct experience that is transferable in understanding the issues arising in resource-based industries today.
 
Ryan Marshall, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, joined Blue Heron in May 2010. Mr. Marshall has experience in environmental compliance and consulting, and specializes in fish and wildlife biology with a degree from the University of Guelph. Mr. Marshall’s areas of focus include permitting, development and implementation of environmental compliance programs, baseline studies for industrial clients.
 
 
Ashlee Vincent, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, with Blue Heron Solutions for Environmental Management, holds a Master's degree in Environmental and Resource Management from the University of Waterloo and an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Biology from McMaster University. Ms. Vincent is familiar with provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to the mining industry.
 
Dwayne Hoven, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, joined Blue Heron in January of 2010. Mr. Hoven has over 15 years experience in complying with environmental regulations in the oil and gas, and mining industries across Canada. Mr. Hoven is well versed in the implementation of site specific environmental regulations, fieldwork monitoring and analysis techniques, as well as environmental and mine safety training for industry personel and managers.
 
 
Pamela Reid, Environmental Specialist, joined Blue Heron in May 2012. Ms. Reid has over five years of experience in the environmental field in the mining industry. Ms. Reid has been responsible for environmental management programs and the coordination of a variety of environmental projects, as well as permitting and regulatory compliance. Ms. Reid has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Technology from Brock University and a Certificate in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College.
 
Dana Lajeunesse, Senior Environmental Technician, joined Blue Heron in the spring of 2012. Mrs. Lajeunesse holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Zoology from the University of Guelph. Dana has experience working in the environmental field in the mining industry in Northern Ontario.
 
 
Nathan Towsley, Communication Specialist, joined the Blue Heron team in January of 2010. Mr. Towsley returned to his hometown of Timmins from Yellowknife, NT where he worked extensively with industry, the Territorial Government and Aboriginal communities on a variety of environmental and socio-political topics. Mr. Towsley specializes in cultural studies, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, workshop facilitation, and communication strategies and holds a degree in Geography from the University of Guelph. Mr. Towsley has assisted a number of northern mining and exploration companies navigate through Consultation requirements, and engage cooperatively with the public and Aboriginal communities.  Mr. Towsley also designs and develops web, presentation and print materials for Blue Heron's marketing department, as well as clients looking to engage the public, investors, or government.
 

Anthony Mascioli, Project Coordinator with Blue Heron Environmental, holds a Master’s degree in Geography and Environmental Management and an Honours Environmental Studies degree with specializations in Biophysical Science and Geomatics from the University of Waterloo.  Mr. Mascioli is experienced in environmental management systems, ISO 14001, conducting field site assessments and baseline designs using a combination of Geographical Information System Science and site visits. Mr. Mascioli also has considerable experience in coordinating multiple aspects of environmental projects ranging from field coordination of personnel, environmental sample collection, client / laboratory collaboration, technical support and permitting support. Mr. Mascioli has worked with Blue Heron since 2006 and has formally joined in 2009.
 
Jo-Ann Pretsell, Administrative Assistant / Field Technician has experience in field work associated with environmental permitting and baseline studies projects. She has performed groundwater, surface water, and soil sampling for a variety of mining and exploration properties, and provides administrative technical support to Blue Heron clients. Jo-Ann has been with Blue Heron since July of 2007.
 
 
Andrew Doyle, Environmental Technician / SHE Coordinator, joined Blue Heron in October 2010. Having a background in Fish and Wildlife, Mr. Doyle has worked as a Technician performing groundwater and surface water sampling, streamflow measurements, electro-fishing, broad scale and fine scale netting. Mr. Doyle has also sub-contracted to different exploration sites to help and monitor Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) Development.
 
Joanna Ciccone, Environmental Technician, has earned diplomas in Fish and Wildlife Management as well as Forestry and Environmental Management from College Boreal in Sudbury. Mrs. Ciccone joined the Blue Heron team in the sping of 2011 and has performed surface water, ground water and sediment sampling fieldwork for various mining and exploration clients throughout Northeastern Ontario.
 


Adam Gauthier, Environmental Technician Intern, joined Blue Heron in April of 2011, and worked for one year as a Co-op student. He is a recent graduate of the Environmental Technician program at Northern College and has experience working in the environmental and exploration fields throughout the Northern Ontario mining sector.

Environmental Management System/ Compliance Specialist

The successful applicant will provide support to our senior permitting specialists as well as our environmental compliance staff in projects for the industrial sector, focused on mining, forestry and aggregate clients.
