Reporting to the General Manager, the Project Director – Phase III Project will be responsible for overseeing a team comprised of consultants, contractors and employees specializing in mining, metallurgy, process design, engineering, power, procurement (contracts, procurement and logistics) and government and community relations.
 
The Phase III Expansion of Island Gold to 2,000 tpd from a current rate of approximately 1,200 tpd will involve various infrastructure investments. These include the installation of a shaft, paste plant, and an expansion of the mill and tailings facility. Following the completion of the shaft construction in 2025, the operation will transition from trucking ore and waste to skipping ore and waste to surface through the new shaft infrastructure, driving production higher and costs significantly lower.
 
The candidate will thoroughly understand all aspects of engineering and procurement on multiple projects being developed at site. As an experienced project management professional, the Project Manager is responsible for managing the following functional areas: mining, process plant design, engineering, power and procurement on project expansion (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Handover) at the mine site.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Manage all aspects of project development, including safety, mining, milling, maintenance, engineering, procurement, contract administration, and environment in the setting and achieving of business objectives and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and all other applicable regulations as they relate to all engineering and construction activities.
  • Develop the strategic and execution plan for the mine construction project, including project organization structure, contracting strategy and resource plan.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of project baselines and project execution plans.
  • Review, develop and implement policies and procedures for all engineering and construction related activities.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership to the project team to ensure cost effectiveness, efficient resource utilization and timely delivery.
  • Oversee tender preparation and assessment practices, contract negotiations, logistics and supply management.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the project risk management program including regular assessment and mitigation of operational, construction and business risks.

Qualifications & Experience:
 
  • BSc in Engineering or Construction Management (mandatory), MBA or MSc (preferred)
  • Technical diploma with extensive experience would be an acceptable substitute to bachelor’s degree
  • 20 years of progressive construction and project management experience in the mining industry
  • Project evaluation and management experience in underground construction, engineering and procurement is preferred
  • The individual should have demonstrated leadership, a high level of energy, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills;
  • Exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with site and corporate personnel.
  • Computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
 
This position is based on Island Gold site operations working on a defined rotation schedule of 4 days in and 3 days out. Flights are available from the GTA (Skyservice Business Aviation), Sudbury and Rouyn- Noranda, QC.
 

Development Boomtruck Operator
  • Safely move material as directed. Report and document all material moved accurately to his/her Supervisor;

Rock Breaker Operator
  • Operate rock-breaker;
  • Perform pre-op and post-op inspections on equipment
Scissordeck Bolter
  • Install ground support as per company standard;
  • Install and maintain services;
  • Load development rounds
Ground Control Engineer
  • QAQC of shotcrete, ground support installation, grouting, ground support auditing and paste fill;
  • Document inspections of underground stoping and development;
  • Rock mass characterisation and classification
Mine Engineer
  • Assist with blast improvement investigations;
  • Look for opportunities to improve efficiencies;
  • Provide guidance to EIT’s
Construction Miner - Transmixer
  • Operate equipment such as transmixer and shotcrete sprayer;
  • Assist in installation, modification and repairs of UG infrastructures
Geological Technician/or Junior Geologist
  • 3D digitizing of underground geological mapping and integration into 3D mining software.
  • Digitize geological surface geological mapping lithology, structure and mineralization
  • Digitize chip sampling of ore development headings as required
Mill Operator/Labourer
  • Works and ensure all workers work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants and all other applicable government standards and regulations;
  • Adheres to and enforces all safety and environmental considerations
Document Control Coordinator - Phase III
  • Implement document and data management solutions with a primary focus on workflow, document control, information security and records management.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to end users in the use of the document management system.
  • Ensure project and operations teams comply with the document management requirements and procedures
Project Controls Manager - Phase III
  • Development and implementation of project controls systems and procedures.
  • Working with accounting personnel to ensure accurate reporting and approval of accruals, forecasts, and project status.
