Machine Learning Engineer

- Engage in ML projects, which includes problem definition, data collection, data engineering, Machine Learning design and documentation for the model risk management and running all the needed ML tests to ensure reliability;
- Develop models that align with, and achieve, defined business objectives and identify metrics to track progress;
- Analyse ML algorithms to solve identified problems and select optimal solutions based on their success probability;
- Develop, maintain and track detailed delivery plans;
- Explore and visualize data to gain a full understanding and identify differences in data distribution that will impact real world deployment;
- Verify and maintain data quality through data cleaning processes;
- Supervise the data acquisition process to ensure all the relevant data is obtained;
- Define validation strategies;
- Define any required pre-processing or feature engineering;
- Develop data augmentation pipelines;
- Analyse developed models and design strategies to identify and correct errors;
- Develop, test and deploy models to production;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
- Demonstrated judgement, creativity and the ability to problem solve effectively;
- Experience with large scale design efforts and enterprise software development;
- nowledge and experience with multiple technologies such as JavaScript, .NET, C#, application servers, n-tier applications, database management systems;
- Demonstrated history of remaining current regarding trends and best practices in the software development field;
- Practical experience in preparing data for Machine Learning integrating with big-data platforms and high-performance computing systems;
- Strong understanding of advanced statistical theories, methodologies and inference tools such as, Python/R.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or similar relevant program from an accredited academic institution;
- A minimum of three years relevant professional software development experience;
- Prior experience in mining, mineral exploration, geochemical analysis or mineralogy preferred;
- Experience in machine learning or deep learning an asset.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks such as keyboarding;
- Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
The successful applicant will be responsible for all sample login activities at the laboratory, with other activities related to sample pickup and handling, including shipping/receiving and occasionally filling in as sample pickup driver.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Burnaby Client Services Team to provide excellent customer service to ALS’ clients and work in a safe manner in accordance with the ALS Health and Safety Program.
The Warehouse Assistant will support the warehouse functions within the lab.
The overall responsibility of the laboratory analyst includes independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples.
Working as an integral part of the Technology Solutions team, the Machine Learning Engineer develops and implements strategic solutions that support key business processes for the global Geochemistry business.

This position is primarily responsible for sample disposal, sample container recycling, and support general facility maintenance and improvements (e.g. shelf building).
